Yes, it is too hot here, and the soil is not rich. We plant veggies and flowers October - March.

cutting outta work early and heading to the garden centre now

need to pick up a soil tester kit and plan what I want to grow this year. I am going to simplify and streamline my approach. I think I want to do too much at once in a short season and then end up disappointed in the results.

vegetables I am gonna focus on:

tomatoes
lettuce
spinach
carrots
sweet peppers
calalloo
sugar peas around the deck again

the bigger ones like squash, kohlarabi, etc. just give me problems.

then I am going to do mass planting of hte same kind of plants instead of multiple stuff - lavender, russian sage and lilac bushes are gonna be bought in bulk this year

I like them...they are easy to grow here...and they are perinnials (sp?) here

u know vegetables are actually a good thing to do with kids.

They come up quick and the progression of growth seems to fascinate them to no end. And afterwards, they are more willing to eat what they have nursed which helps get more good food in them.

carrots are good
rhubarb - impossible to kill and looks pretty
peas


and strawberries
those come up quick and they will enjoy eating the fruits of their labour

any berries would be good actually

need to run out will come back some other ideas

how can your kids not like strawberries

if they grow it they will be more likely to eat it though
