Is not so much a relaxer they need as care. Too many women think afro hair is &quot;tough&quot; and comb it hard and otherwise mistreat it especially when it's on top of their daughters' heads. Such a shame.

On the topic itself, I think the Obama daughters have ther hair pressed for special occasions but I could be mistaken. </div></div>\

it took 400 years for them to convince the african his/her natural physical features were unacceptable; thus it will take time to reverse it..
until then many black women will continue to see their natural features a mistake or curse by god...they still need to emulate the straight hair flowing downward look;
it's sad but like anything else it will change in time once more knowledge and pride spreads back around

always amazing that we think pressed/burned hair is looking our 'best' for 'special occasions' just like i pointed out that the obama girls (including michelle) would not be caught dead at the inauguration (or any other 'special' event) with any form of their natural hair...

i was at a special event on saturday and there were nuff straight hair girls who had their hair professionally curled.

This just means for special events to change the hairstyle from how dem usually wear it.

i saw a picture of a lot of the african first ladies; i was not surprised that 95% of them emulate the straight hair look thru pressing &amp; burning &amp; creming;

stop fight the straight hair...y u think ppl brain washed? yu nuh think is just a matter of preference? i like my hair straight cah mi lazy an refuse to spend no length a time a comb mi hair....i see just as many sistas with braids and kinky twists as i see with straight hair...i dont think it has anything to do with long and straight is more beautiful than natural hair...

80-20 ratio straight hair/weave to natural any given day on the streets or on tv...

don't feel no way 95% of black woman will come up with every excuse in the book as to why they can't ever be seen with their god-given coils;

it's so lame to suggest it is a sparse thing...it is not; it is the vast majority and we all know that many black girls would wear a tie-head until their hair got permed because it was too 'nappy';
or 'girl you need a perm';
how many black women hide their head under these ridiculous looking wigs &amp; weaves that is so clearly not their natural hair texture;
i'm not saying straight hair is always a sign of this but MANY times it is...

when white woman start hiding their heads under dreadlock, afro &amp; cornrow wigs then i will take these excuses seriously

and as we debate this you will continue to see the black stars;

the beyonces, tyra banks, naomi campbells, imans, kerri washingtons, snaa lathans, the michell obamas, etc.

you will be very lucky to ever once in your lifetime catch one of them with an african hairstyle...
but you won't have to look very hard to see them in straight-hair hairstyles

Beyonce had kinky weave and corn rows and Sanaa Lathan had corn rows...can't say if I have ever seen the others in such hair styles
