Our school has a system set up where parents can send in a check and the middle school kids can buy what they want for lunch. It is stored with the child's account.

so my dear forgetful boyKia forgot to inform his parents that his balance was low and was denied lunch today.

In the past they have allowed him to 'owe' the money.

He says the cafeteria lady told him it is a new policy (which I have not seen and I have looked all over the website).

Granted it will help him to remember to let us know when he needs lunch money but on the other hand what if he had an issue where he became dizzy because he did not have lunch?

Would you call the school lunch manager to discuss?

we have the same policy (the account thingy), but ours works that when the balance is low a letter is automatically generated to say...send more money.

also parents can request (when the account is set up) that they get an itemization of what their child is buying to eat. so say if 30 cookies were bought on a certain day...parents could find out why child is treating classmates to snacks (or in the case of these ones here....they buy and sell at a cheaper rate to get the cash)

but i would call the school.

same policy here - i called the school about it and they basically said "tough" - i even threatened to call the news

i use www.mylunchmoney.com and had to change the low balance to account for timing of getting new money into the account - although it happens automatically there is a bit of a lag

i think it borders on child abuse to deny a child lunch - but i guess some parents abuse the system

the system that i'm on, there's a way of setting a low balance threshold ie : $5 and it will top up automatically (from a credit card)

I did call the district lunch manager and left her a message about why did my child go hungry today

Kia, the school I am enrolling Imanni in said they will give him cheese and crackers or something if the &quot;lunch fund&quot; is gone

I agree they should allow the child to eat and &quot;borrow&quot; from the fund up to $5 at least

Kia I would truly look into it.
shouldnt there be a fund set up also for children who cant afford the lunch thing everyday or dont have a lunch.

Ar Bre's school lunch is only every Friday (the other days the children have to bring their lunch) But in the event a child doenst have a lunch all teh child have to do is go to the office and they get lunch.
Or on Fridays if the child parents forget to order lunch (you orders head of time the orders and sent home and the parents order for the days that they want) the child can still get lunch
