i suggest you shadow her for a day and help her manuever - show her where to put her sweaters - have lunch with her and talk about the menu items and observe the teachers.

this helps in 2 ways - one you get to help her get her routine down and 2 - the teachers don't want you at school so they will get their ish together

also check back at the lost and found - things usually show up - you may also want to buy a school sweater with her name on it so she recognizes it as hers - i know you probably want her to have on a matching sweater - but she may not remember that the sweater even belongs to her

also - make sure you are putting your concerns in writing - make it appear as if you are creating a paper trail of the issues - plus no one will be able to say &quot;she never told us anything&quot;

meet with the principal
if no action - go to the country school board
if no action - go to the state

i've been fighting schools for 10 years now - you can win and get appropriate attention

aside: the last school meeting i had in atlanta - 17 people from atlanta public schools attended - including their attorney - they knew i had it in for them

send the writings to the principal

and make sure you email her again after the meeting reiterating your concerns and a timeline for resolution - you need this email and response from the principal to make going to &quot;the next level&quot; effective

and get that hoodie for her so she can bond with her sweater and remember to bring it back and forth

Wendy, I know this goes against what most of the parents in the thread are saying, but I think you need to transfer her.

School just started so this is not the middle of the school year. On the other hand, maybe a change after Christmas at the beginning of a new semester is not a bad idea. It would also give you and her father time to research schools and get your funds in order.

I strongly agree with Seveen when she said shadow her. They definitely don't want you at the school all the time. Also, keep a strong paper trail so there is no &quot;he said, she said&quot; later. In addition to paper, we have camera phones now too.

Hang in there girl. I know you'll get it worked out.

yesterday i helped get my sistren's broken suitcase situation taken care of

she's in belize and her lifetime-warranty suitcase broke - after 2 months - customer reps told her send it to them when she returns to the states - well she's not returning to the states for a minute and she needs a new suitcase now - this suitcase cost $300 dollars

after we tweeted and facebooked them - they don't want your tale of misery and woe on their social media site - immediate refund - not the optimum solution - we wanted them to send her a new one - but it did free up some money to buy a next one

gotta hit them with your best shot IN WRITING!

wendy - you may want to send the principal an email before you meet with her - so you can release some angst before your meeting - i know how emotional these things can be - i had to hire a child advocate at one point because i was ready to slap everyone connected to the school system - lol

and get a picture of that nasty bathroom

i don't think you need to be there all day - just the time spanning lunch

and maybe another time for an hour or so at the beginning or end of school to help her understand &quot;sweater handling&quot;

I am seriously leaning towards that Tulip.. You know when I lived with my Aunt years ago an my little cousin was about 5 or 6 I remember her ranting and raving about the school he was attending. Mi noh member all of what she was ranting about but I remember her also yanking is behine out of there and dragging him to DC where she teaches

I never knew the magnitude of her frustration until now. Back then I was saying &quot;there goes that miserable ooman again&quot; But mi now know dat as a teacher and a mom, shi was just not putting up with anymore of the crap.

Seveen has given you excellent advice.. Paper trail and video do wonders in the school system!

If they still cant get their act together by Oct, definitely pull her out but in the meantime investigate schools

An Rich .. shi not coming home wid long face as in unhappy ...but mi still responsible for her well being. Aside fram di lunch, bus and odda issues, mi fine miself nat even impress wid di smaddy weh a teach har. Soh dat is a whole neda story.

Ain't that something Sev? That you have to be <span style="font-weight: bold">FIGHTING</span>!!! I am glad I stood up for my child when I did.

Wendy, fortunately they are wonderful at the elementary school here so I have no problems other than with their skimping of services in the Sp Ed dept. They wanted her to do ONE day of speech therapy per week. Mi had was to ask dem if dem mad. Sed time mi back out a huge folder of paperwork ...documents and reports of all Abi's evaluations from the various B-3 affiliates she was with that mi collect. Then them finally decide to give her 4 half days.

Now teacher sen home note today saying that she concerned about her fine motor and is calling in PT and OT for eval and will maybe have her doing a full week Exactly what I told them from the beginning when all they were concerned about was her speech (which btw is flourishing).


Wendy, as Seveen seh, keep everything documented, write letters, go through the chain of command, and don't give up. You are your child's advocate. So don't feel bad if yu on di brink of telling dem two [censored]!
