GM, Ford, and Chrysler execs (<span style="font-style: italic">Rick Wagoner </span>(sp?)<span style="font-style: italic">, Alan Mulally, & Robert Nardelli, respectively</span>) <span style="font-weight: bold">ALL</span> flew to D.C. in their own private luxury planes to beg $12 million collectively.
They couldn't even all share ONE of the private jets!
Nope - they had to each fly in their own. While begging more taxpayer money to flush down their exec perk toilets.
I heard on... think it might've been CBS news, on the radio, that Gm's Wagoner said (<span style="font-style: italic">quote is from my pre-coffee memory this morning, but it's fairly accurate if not perfect</span>): "<span style="font-weight: bold">We wanta continue the vital role we played for Americans for the past hundred or so years, but we can't do it without help.</span>"
Presumably, the "help" was the requested governmental bailout handout. Sometimes I hate it when I don't hear a sintin in it's entirety.
I agree with Obama's sentiments: If they can't make their business grow and grow "greener" -- then let 'em go bankrupt; Who cares?
No one with any sense...
They are in so much financial trouble specifically because they refuse to change their business model to match the changing times, and therefore Americans don't want to buy their cars and are buying elsewhere [other cars].
Well... what are [they] going to change?!
Coz if the answer is, "Nothing" - then they're still gonna be in the same - or worse - financial trouble, <span style="text-decoration: underline">even after</span> they've received <span style="font-style: italic">handout</span>... oops, I mean <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="text-decoration: underline">bail</span>out</span> money. *<span style="font-style: italic">kiss teeth</span>*

Yes, Babycakes is an Oldsmobile (<span style="font-style: italic">and, technically, he's <span style="font-weight: bold">Canadian</span>, since he came from a <span style="font-weight: bold">Canadian plant</span> back in 1980</span>) -- but (1) I didn't buy it, it was given to me for free, and (2) I still own the GM Olds coz I am not rich enough to ditch a free car that runs well, and <span style="text-decoration: underline">buy</span> another, <span style="font-weight: bold">just to make a point</span>.
Were I to buy today, knowing how well-made my FJ80 is... I'd buy another Toyota. In a 'New York instant'.
Mr Witchy would buy another Nissan, given the same choice. He's had good luck with this 1991 Maxima, and his previous 1983 Maxima before this one.Comment

WASHINGTON — Rep. Henry Waxman _ a liberal ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi _ will take over the chairmanship of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee when the next Congress convenes in January.
Waxman is a liberal California Democrat. In an election among House Democrats, he toppled veteran Michigan Rep. John Dingell from the post. Dingell is the longest-serving member of the House.
Waxman won the panel chair by a 137-122 vote, capping a bitter fight within the Democratic Party caucus on the Hill.
<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">Dingell has been the top Democrat on the panel for 28 years and is an old-school supporter of the auto industry. Waxman has complained that the committee has been too slow to address environmental issues like global warming.</span>
