why do people not seem to understand the concept of child support?
My ex told me after I left him that since I didn't want to be with him, he'd never help me with the baby. So I sued him for child support. That was 12 years ago.
Now he has called me carrying on that he found out there was a warrant out for his arrest, that he "supposedly" owes back child support and that "they" took his tax refunds. Nevermind that the only way I can get child support is when its taken directly from his paycheck. And if he changes jobs and doesnt report it, it takes a while for them to catch up. So there have been periods of time where I have receieved nothing at all. Over 12 years. AND I used to explain to him what could happen if he didnt pay it. I eventually stopped because I realized I was wasting my breath and he didn't care.
So now he's calling me, carrying on, talking about, "YOU" need to call them, "YOU" need to fix this. I explained to him that since the court is involved, "he" needs to contact them and work this out. And then...(i'm laughing as i type this), he says "You don't know what you're talking about. I'm going to have my mom check into this." This is the same mother who he told me was a better woman than me because she never took out child support on his dad for her and her 3 kids. And they would have to live on nothing while he watched his dad get remarried and have more kids with another woman who ended up leaving him anyways. I guess he forgot that he had told me that when he was telling me how wonderful his mother is and how terrible I am.
So anyways, why do people think that child support should be a choice? I have to feed and clothe this child EVERYDAY, not just when I feel like. And why do people think that the court just does what the parent collecting the child support wants? The court could care less about me. It's the state that is trying to make sure there is not one more child on welfare. And I agree. The state (and taxpayers)shouldn't have to pay for the upkeep of children when the kids have 2 parents who can provide for them.
ARGH!
