Lawd Kia mi havi run but.. yuh still going off into examples wey di woman a WORK. Staying at home and NOT WORK is wey mi a talk bout. Helping hubby running business IS WORK.

that is a small percentage ofthe women..I see you missed the earlier paragraph. Many SAHMs do not have jobs and trust me dem do more dan a lick pon a daily. Running a home IS Work!

Did you know the duties as SAHM does is worth over $100K a year?

Kia and others I am not going to argue a point on symantics.. Ofcourse running a home is &quot;work&quot; Mi run mine everyday before and AFTER mi 9 -5 ..But anybody who is nat dilly dalling round the word <span style="font-style: italic">&quot;work&quot; </span>will understand what I mean by WORK.

SAH wort what yuh sey but dats not what they earn - do they? Who pays that wage to the SAH? Can they file SAH on their taxes as INCOME? PLease let's get real here!

Now to the original point I am trying to make is if you SAH and running a business or anything that brings in an <span style="font-weight: bold">INCOME</span> I am all for that because I prefer to contribute to the household FINANCIALLY not in some pseudo kinda a way ..mi mean <span style="text-decoration: underline">real income</span>.

If mi man mek whole heaps a money and offer for me to SAH ..mi (and again speaking fi moi) nat gwine to sit at home an do jack sqaut and then when the castle come crumbling mi noh have nutten fi fall back pan. Dat a di gist of what I am saying. Mi noh know how else fi mek it<span style="font-style: italic"> clearerer</span>!

For me it is not one or the other. I had to work so we could afford to buy a home and I had to stay home with kids when they were young because we couldn't afford good daycare. And it was I who stayed home because he made a higher salary. In other words, for us it was an economic decision at different stages of our family life. Later when the children were in middle and high school and I was working 9-5, it was he who opted to work from home so he could manage family demands.

I get what you are saying Wendy. My first marriage I was really young and was a SAHM. I did not like the feeling of being dependent on my husband. I stayed home for about 2 years before I joined the work force and started to make my <span style="font-weight: bold">own</span> money.

The current Mister and I have had talks about me staying home (if he was able to afford it) and honestly I balk at the scenario, I like having my own. My opinion is that the relationship power shifts for <span style="font-weight: bold">me</span> if I am not making my own. Something about being dependent on another just does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling. My personal opinion!

the 50-60 hr week i used to work is a big deterrent to me going back to what i used to do.

Peasie I get all that I know certain decisions are made for diff reasons and you expereince is extactly what I sated on page 1 - If I am staying home with the Kids its only temporarily. It's do what we got to do and then kids are off to school and I am back to work ..I ain't going to be a &quot;kept&quot; woman [<span style="font-style: italic">insert your own term here</span>] indefinately So I get the situation you described.

The real story of that woman in NY I told is the SAH situation I know mi cyan fine myself into. Living in the dark and just totally dependent on the man and have no intentions of meking life fi yuself. She did it and I am sure they both thought this was grand idea for them as a couple - but look at the consequence? Crazy!

the last thing i'd be is being judgemental of those who chose to not join the 9-5 work force and elect to be a full time (or even part-time) stay-at-home mom/wife.

but I think it bears repeating the point becuase it has obviously gotten lost in the discussion....this woman is the <span style="font-weight: bold">EXCEPTION </span> and does not represent the <span style="font-weight: bold">RULE</span>.

I wouldnt even bother comparing her to the average SAHM out there because the majority of SAHM are not this daft.

She made a conscious choice to be blind to the finances and serve her right. period.
