And whose fault is that? It is said that one in four black men are in prison, and we hear about those ones just about every day via the mass media. How often do you hear about the three of four who are not imprisoned and making useful contributions to society? It's a societal thing; good news doesn't sell newspapers and ads, and frankly some people love the drama of dsyfunction.
Maybe those involved with black men, one way or another, who are doing "good things" should start threads about those men? In the meantime, let's not pretend we don't have our dirt. That the majority of black men may be constructively engaged does not mean that we as a community do not have some serious social issues that need addressing. </div></div>
FRANKLY, I think you have a lot of nerves to say that.
I am sick and tired of black men expecting and requesting that black women protect them, nurture them and uplift them.
What are you doing to dispel the myth CEW? Do you mentor black young men and do you go to the press with the positive things black men are doing in your society?
Why are MORE black men defending the nonsense? Why should the burden always rest on the shoulders of the black women...from the cradle to the grave?
STEP UP BLACK MEN and do more than spreading the stereotypical bull about you and your brothers. HE IS NOT HEAVY, HE(whom they denegrate and astrocize) IS YOUR BROTHER! </div></div>
Ah, the sterility of words posted on a BBS; the do not convey intent, do they? It would have been a lot easier to ask if I was suggesting women take up the mantle of "defending" black men. IMO, that would be quite the burden and not one she should have to carry. The black men who choose to lead irresponsible lives are the ones that need to step up to the plate and start doing right. Why should anybody have to carry their burden?
