mi sorry bout de racoons Simmy - memba di wan dat terrarize mi hubby last year - mi tink dats why im didn't mine moving after dem did mash-up di place.

Since im jab situation changed and im don't have as much time fi do im own im helpin a friend wid hers but it seem dis time a rabbit's around and all de cabbage, lettuce (tings dem like) gawn - im mek a balcony garden (in pots) fi us doe and it real nice - wi have pepper, spring onion, chives, thyme, tomato and im even plant some potatoes - it look real nice (wi try & tek pics) and btw wi still have space fi a table & chairs - we having a good laugh as im don't haffi worry bout weeding -- mi jus hope no raccoon, rabbit or squirril fine ie [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Bugs are eating the leaves off the plants in my garden [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] One rose bush is looking poorly but she has new buds sprouting, so I'll wait for those buds to bloom then prune the plant down (again). Any recommended Herbicide(?) to use?? I don't like the idea of using chemicals but .... if there are any natural remedies, someone please help me.

The little Pepper trees have 6 big yellow peppers... think they're called "Banana Pepper", just ready to be picked. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] The Scotch Bonnett pepper tree only has one pepper, which is still on the green side ... should I pick it from now or wait 'til it ripen on the tree???

one of the natural remedies that u can use to repel this insects from eating the leaves of your plant is garlic. just plant this ( break them up into little cloves and stick in the ground). For some reason, the insect will not eat your leaves. Or use pepper, but u have to re spread again after rain, and the same goes for the organic insecticides that u can make yourself or purchase at the nursery.

My garden this year consists of 40 (yes) tomato plants (they had a sale for a tray of tomato plants for 2 dollars - holds about 36 plants and I couldnt resist) God only knows what I am going to do with the tomatoes.
I have started having tomatoes growing on the trees and I am so excited. I planted them in a new spot this year. Right in front of the back patio. Dug up the grass and everything. They are doing nicely.
Pepper, try using fertilizer with the tomato plants. Try using the little spinkle kind so that u wont burn the plant's leaves, if u desolve them in water or use a liquid type.
Today I planted cantalopes and zucchini. I also planted thyme as I read yesterday on the internet that thyme attracts bees - and hey, bees help with pollination of plants. I also did mint, but left it inna de pot because I heard that they also attract bees. I didnt put them in the ground cuz they spread too fast and will take over your entire yard!. I really dont want mint and my grass together!!
I also have bell peppers and scotch bonnet. I have one scotch bonnet already.
In the front the house, I have peonies (planted b the previous owner, but one planted by me; hostas, daylily, stargazer lillies, cannas, dalihas,petunias, and gladiolas. My front is my pride and joy. I really dont have any space to plant anything else so now I have to go to the back yard.
U should see me watching the garden every day. The neighbors have to be tired of me. cus every day I am out there in the morning and evenings just watering or just sitting down on me verandah. (I really dont have a veraradah, I just have a green patio chair on the front lawn surrounded by the garden as a peaceful backdrop and it is there that I sit and relax) Its so relaxing to me, whether I sit in the back or the front.
Today my kids found a "frog", yep, a frog taking a back float in my dawghters sand box - yucckkk..... ( I had filled it up with water when I left for vaction and placed my hanging baskets in them so that they would be ok while I was gone)
anyway, all fun aside,
I live up North, and there are many things that I cannot plant because our summers are so short. so if anyone want to plant a mango tree der de me, please ,please feel free to do so.
Any variety is welcome! be well....

I almost feget.
I have also planted sweet potato plants. Only 3 survived. Wish me luck as this is a new endeavor.

I am kind a new to dis board!!
anyway I live in in the Bronx, I always plant my garden on Mother's day I planted egg plants ( the white ones) sweet and hot peppers, zuccinie (if that is the right spelling) tomaotes reap the first crop, butter beans running all over the place and bearing like crazy, cucumbers bearing all over the place, gave away callaloo to my friends every week ends, about a dozen corn ready to reap, and a few cantelopes growing nicely. it may soud strange to hear that this is going on the Bronx, here are few of my secrets (1) every time I cut my grass I let it quail a little and then I sprinkle it into the garden that keeps the ground cool and then as it rots it becomes mulch (2)during the fall when I sweep up the leaves I put as much as I can into the garden and as they rots they becomes the best manure that you can get, you will be growing your own organic food.
my last tip to get best out of your crop, get a box of match, break off about four to six of the heads of the sticks with the sulphur and drop them into hole before you put the plants into the ground and plant them, and you will see the result when they start to bear.

Me nuh know what is wrong. The three plants are about 6 feet tall. The stems are strong, the leaves firm and the smell pungent. But not one piece a tomato. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

The banana tree soon bear, and the ackee tree is springing new growth like crazy.

Pepper, dawlin, yu shudda pinch di tomatoe bush dem wen dem was bout 2 foot tall, den dat wudda force dem fi bud, but a too late now. Nex planting, wen dem reech 2 foot, pinch out di young tap leaves dem mek dem sprout fram di sides.

Thanks Simmy. I did not pinch them, now I know for next year. Yes mam, dem just a grow like dem a try reach di sky. Me fence is ungle 6 foot tall and now dem is likkle bit taller dan me fence. Me going ouside go pinch dem.

a beautiful thing about KOREA, is every available space has a garden from your simples to complex. and don't think they don't throw vegetables in the batch. something is always blooming.

Sorry I could not reply earlier, thanks for the welcome.
My advice for the tomatos is it depends on how you wants to grow them,if you want to grow them short do not pick out all the buds that shoots up at the next leaf after the blassom, that will stop the growth of the plant.
But if you want to grow them tall pick out all the buds that shoots after the blassom and they will grow as tall as you wants them to grow.
When you tie tomatos always use old stockings, the stockings will strech if the plants get too heavy with the weight of the fruits also prevent cutting of the of the mother plant trunk.

Hey Pepper, I've got tomatoes but no cukes. I've got them growing off the ground in cages, and on the ground, plenty of little yellow buds, but no cukes??? Bees a buzzing all around too! Even the peppers are coming along fine! This has me stumped! I usually have more cukes than anything else. G-ma said to pee on them, but I'm afraid they will taste funny! Any ideas???
