I'm definately a nature freak. Have crocus coming up and clementis starting to grow. Putting down seeds for a butterfly garden this year. Love those butterflies and humminbirds. Passion vine yet to look better but spring is coming. But the pansies made it through the winter shinnin.

Hi SandiF, long time. On Saturday, I looked longinly at my garden; the 120ft lawn is stillsaturated so I can't even mow that [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] . Last year I had my worst ever season due to the vagueries English weather. I am having a little rethink on what I will be planting this year. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello Ladies:

SandyF so glad you started this post. I am still under several ft of snow, and -30 BUT the worst is over. I am a serious prairie gardener. Only the strong and fast survive around here. I am waiting for Jim to come back from Negril in afew weks and we will talk serious FISH PONDS. I think every garden/yard should have one, and it looks like he is the master.

Going to Vancouver next wk, and spring is in full tilt, will post pictures.

Can hardly wait for more garden plans.... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

well girl mi dying fi get started.mi itching so bad.most of my garden will vegetables and herbs.the flowers is mi dawta DWL.she has a rock garden.

now as to mi lawn yu knoh it has a ton of crocus,on it waiting to bloom. now they double up dem selves an i planted more [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] ,so watch out. people always look as they drive bye.

well dats were mi at so far.

I have been waiting patiently for this.

Lets see, just yesterday I was clearing out weeds in the garden area. Don't know what I am going to plant yet, but I am preparing the soil.

During the winter months I planted Peppermint, thyme and strawberries. The peppermint does not have a strong flavor, [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I am hoping that will come over time.

The strawberies are doing well. New growth coming in all the time. My son is the strawberry fan, and he says they are tasty.

The thyme is growing like crazy. It's nice to go out back and cut thyme, wash it and drop it in my pot. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

My mother and I was just talking about what to plant this spring....in the back she is going to do callaloo, tomatoes, bell peppers, scotch bonnet peppers, mint and miscellaneous flowers....in the front I don't know if I want more flowers or greenery.

Just watch out for the cats,racoons and varmints. They devoured all me fish last year in the pond. I read that there are non-toxic granules one can put down around their pond to keep them away. They don't care for the aroma. Good luck w/ your pond though. They are beautiful.

girl mi use to grow everyting,all mi herbs,tomatoes an callalo.

if you buy one a dem (or2) big barrel dat the fruits come in.mi knoh de Italians will sell it to yu, bout $10.00 each full it a soil an away yu go.

Geraniums are great for balcony gardens also prune tomatoes - they bear a lot [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] . There's a loft right beside me (about 8 units) and the people put put more groun gardeners to shame.
thyme; basil; sage are all great and they can be grown in a sunny window (done it). Have fun.

I started rose of sharon inside;
no more giant sunflowers,
ease up on the shasta daisies;
more iceland poppies (they're beautiful);
more california poppies (bloom from june to october)
I think I'll try impatients this year but they need watering and I like a garden that's almost wild. I mean I should reap the benefits of its beauty with the least amount of work right? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

This year I have two gardens to look after. We're moving to live on the farm and the land is wet in some areas and dry dry in others. Nice woodland in the back (come with creek and small lake). I'm leaning towards having a woodland garden and using 'French gardening', which is raised beds around the house. Of course, we keeping this house here, and I have no plans to abandon the gardening here.

Bigtime! sorry your English garden was on the lam last year. Last year I had big problems with Japanese Beetles and some spider looking bugs, kept nyaming up my rose bushes. I tried every thing possible, but it's like the little critters only built up a strong resistant against every method of pest eradication I came up with.

mountaingal, nuff balcony gardenists are here, check with Simmy and Portlander/Porty48, they did it all! Check out "French Gardening" aka raised flower beds, it'll apply for the gardening you need.

Redj, wow a fish pond! I thought of doing a small water garden but it sound like too much work. Sounds like I'll have to get some gardening lessons from you [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Suesumba, no more giant sun flower for me either and I hope this one I had last year does not come back automatically. I thought Sun Flowers were annuals. Pepper, could it because you've got a tropical season that it comes back year round in Florida?
