that is something which I always wondered. other peoples myths, there is no question they are just nice morality tales and stories perpetuated by the ignorant who need to explain lightning and night and day. yet when it comes to their own, equally improbably myths...HANDS OFF!!! Have FAITH!!!

Wahalla I can only go by what THEY sate in their own writings. I'm going on memory here, but I THINK I read somewhere where the Egyptians, ancient Incas and a few other peoples of ancient times either attribute their ancient great civilizations to other-worldly beings OR, like the Egyptians, claim that they were only inheritors of a much older civilization upon which they simply built.

And the records you assume are accurate ???? or were they written a couple generations post these steps forward... lets put this way is sellasie a god ????

I'm not sure if we're not comparing apples to oranges. As CEW mentioned or hinted at, the Sumerian culture appeared to have sprung up out of nowhere, complete and already at an advanced stage. There is no evidence of an upward evolution from a primitive existence to that advanced state. For this reason, some have taken a more serious look at their myths as containing some semblence of truth in that, they may have been &quot;visited&quot; by another people (as they state) who gave them civilization. Whether they pulled up in spaceships, ancient yachts across the Persian Gulf or came over the mountains on dirt bikes is another story.

This is not about who created the heavens and earth or what causes crops to grow and die or speculation of where the dead go. This is about their civilization which they attributed to people more technological advanced than they were. I don't think that is too far of a stretch, is it?

Wahalla I can't attest to their accuracy to be honest. It's just plausible in MY opinion as opposed to say, some being waved his hand and trillions of stars filled the sky instantly or took a rib of a man and magically made a woman from it. I see no reason why they would not want to take credit for their own accomplishments but prefer to defer it to others instead - The Sumerians, at least. There is nothing stretching imagination to admit or conclude that another group of people could not have assisted another group in erecting a civilization of their own.

the attribution of sumerian civilization to a more technologically advanced, alien set of being because of what appears to be an indiscernible path from primitiveness is a completely subjective exercise. i'm with wahalla a little in looking askance at historians taking that view simply because of <span style="font-style: italic">where </span>in the world the so-called civilizations sprung up. coloured folks creating civilizations? no way man. we don't know what evidence they are missing, overlooking, ignoring or whatever that in fact would explain the development of such a civilization by human will and skill, and to me the attribution to other-worldly people is at base racist.

in essence, the same &quot;faith&quot; that would enable one to believe that other superior beings can intervene in human affairs (yet not, it seems in a sustained way), is to me a version of the same &quot;faith&quot; that enables one to believe in a superior being who created the universe in seven days.

I agree this would be an exercise in speculation MG. Let me be the first to say that the idea that &quot;alien&quot; beings had anything to do with this does not come from the mainstream academia. This comes from alternative theorists who see a universal pattern in like stories from across the globe.

I look at this as if I was writing about George Headley batting... My father ans I disputed who was the greatest bats man.. Richards, Sobers or Headley.. Funny thing was neither of us had seen Headley bat yet we agreed he was a giant.... If I thus wrote tales of Headley he would be greater than mere mortals....simply based on the disection of the past fill with halcyon days of gaints and a super batsmen.... Jacob may have wrestled with a super man, but he never wrote it.. it was written in Babylon much later....

Sumerians sprag up as a result of development of a surplus which encouraged trade... Similar civilisations sprang up and came out witht hte same challenges and developed similar not identical solutions.. is htere any logic why the myths generated should not be the same ?????
