but my parents were not particularly religious...they were spiritual but not religious...very god-fearing wonderful people; my father had a black christ picture over my crib so i developed under black christ as opposed to the dominant image people accepted of the chosen one jesus- a european...</span>

2)Do you ever have doubts about your current beliefs, or lack thereof?

3) Do you get turned off completely if you were chatting amiably with someone, and then you found out they were a Christian/religious?

<span style="font-weight: bold">yes-at times depending on their attitude. but what can you do? peaople react the way they are programmed to, so yu haffi si wid dem...religion is not the best topic to debate as people are emotional and attached to the subject matter...i try to reason with people on a human level as opposed to regurgitating religious doctrines...my beliefs are mine and yours are yours, but we're still human and can communicate based on reason and intelligence</span>

4) Do you think being religious/christian make someone less intelligent than someone who is non-religious/non-christian?

<span style="font-weight: bold">in some cases it can be...i've spoken to some people who are so religion minded that they can't step outside of that box...it limits their thinking to a certain extent; i've spoken to some muslims and thought- wow; that's pretty close to brainwashing...i find a lot of christians & muslims to be very intolerant of other faiths...</span>

5) If you are/were a parent, would you try to influence your child(ren)'s decisions regarding their religious beliefs? Do you think parents should exert any influence in this regard?

<span style="font-weight: bold">i am a parent..but i don't think my children are old enough to decipher the different religions so i just teach them about god in the sense that there is good and there is bad...do good- and what that involves; it's a daily process...no one forced rastafari on me...my uncle that i was closest to as a yute is a rastaman and i hung around him a lot...but it waasn't until much later in my teenage years that i began to overstand for myself and began to study...i think it's more real when you discover for yourself as opposed to someone forcing you or strongly suggesting...</span>

6) How do you deal with a situation that appears to be hopeless?

it's hard...i guess everyone deals with trials and tribulations in their own way...me i just try to keep it in perspective and think about the struggles of my parents and ancestors to get me/us to this point and tell myself i must endure and be strong because if they had not been...i would not be here and able to do these things...</span>

Thanks, jah yout. For now, just following up on the matter of being a Rastafarian. How would you describe this form of belief? Does it recognize the Christian God? How is Haile Selassie viewed in Rastafarianism (if that is a word)?

anyway..jahyout..greetings and blessings. I am truly an admirer and find comfort in words spoken/written by you many a times.

I was having a discussion this passed weekend with some friends mine. One of there brothers is a Rastafarian (my friends are not) and they wanted us (me and Mr. Kurlie) to sit down and have a talk with there brother. Their assumption was that we "recogonized the christian G[g]od and their brother doesn't and think it was a great idea to talk to him about Rasta and the true and living G[g]od. I felt uncomfortable about the situation because I beleive that every man/woman have a right to his/her own belief. I/we didn't confirm if we believe in the christian G[g]od or not.

So my question is the same as CEW's...Do you recogonized the Christian God?

no, its <span style="font-weight: bold">rastafari</span> as ras don't check for <span style="font-weight: bold">ism</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold">schism</span>

i would describe this form of belief as <span style="font-weight: bold">liv</span>ity, as opposed to <span style="font-weight: bold">die</span>ty because i and i deal with life and not death...
there is no 'christian god'...there is only one god, but men have seen the most high through their own experiences and doctrines...
so i recognize the same god as any other living creature, just perhaps see him through different eyes than other ones of other faiths, while respecting all...
haile selassie is not viewed in any one way...some ras see selassie as the returned messiah spoken of in revelations when jesus spoke of returning in a new name to found new jerusalem..some see him as an esteemed elder and prophet of prophecy, some see him as god himself...some see him as a great ruler...
but to me it's all of the above;
the worsds haile selassie in amharic mean 'power of the trinity'...the three inna one and the one inna three...that means the spirit of god can traverse eternity and manifest on earth in any time it so chooses...
i and i the lost sheep were found once ras tafari mekonnen entered the terrestrial plane and assumed the throne of ethiopia- the birthplace of mankind and the only country in africa not taken over by the beast in the war called 'colonialism'...in other words holy ground- as the 225th and final emperor of that land...
the romans crucified christ in the earlier advent...came for the christ child in 1896 in 'the battle of adwa' when ethiopia became the first african nation to defeat a european power (the romans- italy), and again in 1936 when they again invaded- determined to extinguish any hope of african redemption by conquering the last undefeated land on the continent...
before learning all this i was deaf, dumb and blind

so for me there is no doubt-
selassie I is i and i lord and savior

like i answered CEW, i recognize no christian god or muslim god or hindu god or bhuddist god, etc. because it's the same god whatever you call him/her/it...
there is only one god and i learned of him through the manifestation of ras tafari, so that is where my loyalty rests...
unlike some of them i can respect their beliefs even when they mock mine...and my job is not to convert them...if they live a good life and are fair with me and give respect i have no problems with them, for they are serving god in their own way- which is a good thing...only when they get arrogant & presumptuous do i rebuke them in the name of the lord;

the one god can manifest in many forms...
obviously the man selassie in flesh in and of himself is not THE ONE GOD since heaven and earth were here before his 1892 earth-day...
just as heaven and earth were here before the earth-day of the man-god known to you as jes-us christ over 2000 years ago...
even as it was here before the original trinity of horus, ises and osiris...

i am in my father's likeness and image...in fact people are amazed how much i look like my dad...but i am not him...yet we share flesh and blood and spirit...the same matter has been passed down for millenia;

god is a spirit...a way;
but men being in 'his image and likeness' have the god-spirit in them and can become a god-man if he reaches the spiritual heights (just as a man can be devil-man)...
so as the scripture said...'i have said ye are gods'....
so then the highest god will be the god of gods, or the most high god...
similar to the 5% nation of gods and earths in that sense;

naturally i will build my own philosophy within the teachings and lessons i have acquired along the way as no two men think exactly alike; but it fits within the framework of my rastafari culture- which i am as adamant about as the christian or muslim or jew is about their faith...

i don't know how rasta view it, but i say that because the zulu victories did not preserve south africa's independence- they were still colonized by the afrikaaners & friends, whereas ethiopia's victory at adwa ensured that no european nation could take overlordship on their country;
they were forced to recognize them as an independent nation and not as a colony or protectorate, etc.

Quite a few folks would not admit to having doubts regarding their beliefs/lack thereof, so thanks for honesty....I don't consider doubt a 'bad' thing and its also natural to have some moments; it can lead to questioning, which could mean stronger faith/stronger conviction......

That being said:

1. You implied having some doubts at some point. In what areas have you questioned the rastafarian belief?

2. Once someone made this statement on the board, and I have wondered on it:<span style="font-style: italic">"Things have changed,expectations have changed,times have changed,what it means to be a rastafarian for one man is an entirely different thing for a next man."</span><span style="font-size: 8pt">](mi run goh find di chread )</span> I had asked before, but did not receive an appropriate response.
