also, govt officials travel abroad to have discussions and meetings with the jamaican diaspora, they know the impoortance of jamaicans residing abroad.

just because a jamaican is currently abroad doesn't mean that they amy not return, nor should they give up their entitlements, and one of the entitlements should be the right to vote as is done in other countries

your 'entitlement' is to vote in the country if you live as a citizen there.
many Jamaicans retire to jamaica to their own detriment. Have you not heard the tales of their monies being sucked by the government who created a law to freeze returning residences funds if they're held in a Jamaican bank? you've never heard of the crime affecting the returning residences?
Some have hauled up the tracks they set down and hightailed it outta there. that's their available option, one which very few other Jamaicans enjoy.

For alot of Jamaicans abroad, returning is not in their plans and even if it is, why should the Jamaicans currently living there be hostage to the romantic fancies of some person abroad?

Patriotism does not dictate what you are suggesting...not from my POV anyway...

i have my facts from the ministry of finance. all the information you want is there including to whom exactly we are indebted. there are several nice PDFs in the DMU's section.

no, jamaica's GDP is circa $9B USD.

the internal debt which is mostly jamaican denominated is risk-free because the government can always print more... ooops.. have more money printed (we don't print our own money) to meet the target of repayment.

the external debt which is denominated in other currencies (typically USD and EUR) is risky debt since we have to earn the foreign exchange to repay them.

currently.. external public debt:GDP is at about 4.7/9 = 52%.

the next thing is our moodies' and S&P rating. currently we are in good standing but each time we borrow from commercial banks or other overseas creditors, we hurt our credit rating. when jamaica's credit rating starts to hit C and it becomes even more difficult for us to borrow overseas thus affecting our ability to repay our external debt, that's when i'll start to worry a lot.

for now, 52% external public debt:GDP is tolerable but not pretty. what we are doing now in jamaica is borrowing to pay on debt. anybody who has ever tried this with credit cards knows it does not work.

one time i wanted to start a bar brawl because a guy said to me; 'hey farrina, buy we a drink, nuh'...'we' meaning all his bredrins in the bar...;
this mentality of 'us' & 'dem' is one of the things ruining the nation...if your jamaican brother goes to farrin for a year and come back, he's now a 'farriner' and must have money or must be viewed differently from 'true' yardies...
someday i hope my people will wake up and see that their stupid bickering is only making it better for our enemies and worst for us...
all who are advocating separation & differences between jamaican descendants are just plain morons...
