This is correct and it is expressed very subtly, at times.

What also happens sometimes is a non-welcome for returning residents. Again, it's very subtle thing and you have to live in the culture to pick up on it. Good thing the returnee will not see it right away...but eventually ...

It's almost two sides of the same coin, I think.

Donika, must say I dont live in Jamaica and I agree with you in principle on the idea. I am no fan of Eddie but I respect him and I beleive he has been demonised by too many... (Well 2 years real growth out of thirty is hardly an acheivemt but that is the best we have as well as his handling of his seacond election victory)

I was socialised by living through the Manley era and it had a profound wounding on my psche and now I have come to resent the stupidity of the period while understanding the reasons why that stupidity have come into play.

What amazes me is the canoisation of the PNP and the demonisation of the JLP. I find it even stranger that the majority of those who do this are descendants of those who ran away from Jamaica during the 70's. (A number seemed to have left Jamaica as infants).

I however dont think Portia is a Joshua. She lacks the magnetism, self guilt and complication that was Micheal.. Part of the problem wiht Micheal was the fact the part of him that most take into account was the popularist.. not the whole man. (As well as the fact he was not as smart as he thought he was!)

In fact what the latter 2 have achieved by way of social ladder movements have surpassed where they were before unlike michael.

The JLP suffers from a number of defects that are easily exploited in the context of a Jamaica. The first leader was seen an ignoramus last leader before this one was seen as a white man who was not born in Jamaica. Thus the PNP effectively use class, race, colour and place of birth to marginalize the leadership and castigate the JLP despite the marked difference in the administration of the country under each party.

Jamaicans there Jamaicans abroad are the same Jamaicans. It is the contributions of the Jamaicans abroad that adds to the image of Jamaica.

It is those Jamaicans who go back and build businesses, and create jobs for people.

We are all one people born and bred through the throes of slavery. If something bad happens to Jamaica we all get wounded, and if something good happens then we all revel.

So as far as I see it we all have a stake in Jamaica, and we all have the right to express view and/opinions concerning Jamaica.
