This reminds me when I lived in NY I was on the bus and all I heard was "Driva on stop a di corna" mi buss out a laugh the driver kept driving of course because he did not understand.

having to pack a lunch to skool. mi used to fi get mi luch money an go buy food outta road. none of dis sandwhich bizniz

they do their hair di same way 365 days of di year....and dem keep questioning u bout ur hair...touching it and sayin it doesnt even feel like real hair....brite

the biggest thing for me though was the touchesness...mi have a big mout and u done know seh in ja u speak ur mind. if somebaddy ask mi how dem look i used to be very honest. one time mi tell one girl seh she fat...masssy lawd di gyal bex

several yrs ago one of my coworkers was completely skeeved out when I told her i hand wash my undies..I can still see her shuddering at the thought [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] she was convinced machines were more sanitary [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] :shrug;

ahem...about the underwear thing....I know many a rich peeps who don't put it in the machine....if yah a guh spend 200 pan draws....with embelishments machine will destroy dat in a split second....suh the manufacturer recomend hand wash....

the buildings, the black and white issue- mi did go sit in a one McDonalds in a Manhattan and a white woman git up. Couldnt understand how people eat pan the street, and how family sit down in a Macdnald and det meal pan sunday. Couldnt understand how people buy shop food pan Sunday. How dem eat chinese food nearly every day. Mi did only go to the Chinese restaurant on special occasions - but then is restaurant we had in Ja not fast food shops. Couldnt understand how them kiss in public. In my days in Jamaica people would gatehr around as ask if you noh have you house fi do demdeh things. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I noticed this as well, and when you look cross eyed at them they say "oh I don't have any germs" so I say "how do you know that I don't"
Also I was/still am shocked to hear people refer to grown women as Girls/Gals in a business/professional setting...but I'm thinking that might be more a part of the culture here

mi come up after mi done cxc and go straight a college, what got to mi was
1)people talk anyway to teacher, even college professor
2)People who you see in class will walk by yu like yu no exist outside a class, mostly yt students did this (mi tink dis was racial and a NY mi go under grad)A jamaica no matter wha yu still hail up people in a yu class, especially if yu sit beside dem.
3)How young pickney want grow up so quick get car and apartment at 18, mi a 16 in a college still a ask fi lunch money and bus fare from parents a wonda if mi should a ask fi car too. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]
4) Christmas just annada day to most people, no church mass or nutting
5)How divided americans were along racial lines. Mi swear to god some people in a school a tell mi tings bout yankee dis and dat, and mi have to ask dem how would I know, both of unu americans [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img],
6)Nuff people have mouth but when yu tep to them..no backative..... and is more dan one person mi had to cho two lick unda fi chat too big in a mi face.

But regardless, this place change fi mi life because of education and opportunity so it was both good and bad.
