Show me parents who do not wish better for their children than that which they had. Even blue collar workers want their children to be 'smart'...academically also.

There is the hierarchy regardless of what we say and any capable student who chooses to fill a less able role will have denied a less able student that spot to which he is entitled. For example, if you can be a physicist, why would you want to be a garbage collector?

A physicist could become a garbage collector if his fortunes are reversed but a garbage collector could never become a physicist, no matter what.

So, instead of glorifying the lower end, and villifying the upper end, encourage each person to attend to their calling and 'bloom where they are planted'.

Personally I beleive that time served trades people are better educated than all these MBA's...

Few years back I was condidering jacking it in and becoming a plumber.. Would have considered a carpenter love the smell of cut lumber but am scared of power tools...In fact I was just discussing with the wife that I would do three more years as a consultant then re training in plumbing.. Suh in ten years the proffessional wife will be married to a plumber ... How impossible...But then would still be married to a bum that would be an improvement I guess...

Look my key spar Chuck is an electricitian he is married to a P a Finacial manager for a Telecoms company.... And struggle togehter....

Winston another electrician was going out with a p/hd student who dumped him after she became a tenured professor, a week after she got tenure..... Gold digger..

I watched Tara a finaical analyst who gave up her education so har man get im CPA get dumped by im with 3 pickni..

Men define the job.. The job doesnt define them....

Note then men with pHDs have a problem as there are 3 times them as there are women....

i don't disagree. however, i was just pointing out two very specific cases of my women friends with degrees and high professional standing who are living happily with blue collar men, and the reasons i can see why this works for them.

in the end,it is NOT the career which determines how well two people get on, it is the personality/character of each, IMO.

I know a "blue collar" worker who started out his working life as a "rig pig" He is now the sole owner of an international company that is number one in it's field. This "blue collar" former "rig pig" is now a multi millionaire. Fortunatly his university educated wife was able to look beyond his "low class" employment, so now she and his 3 grown up kids can all reap the benifits of his hard work.

(and I would like to add that this family is one of the most down to earth set of people I have ever met in my life)

The career is often born out of ambition which have been known to help in the design/makeup of the personality/character of the individual.

Now, if one has ambition and has pursued a career and the other lets the chips fall where they may and might have decided to just sweep the streets (for example), wouldn't that eventually result in a personality clash...albeit, disguised as something else in many relationships?

I view the mismatch of couples (in careers) no different from any other mis/fortune in life. Sometimes it is a blessing as they compliment each other in other ways, and sometimes it serves as a barrier, because it is obvious in their interaction that they are unequally yoked. <font color="blue">But why does blue collar mean no ambition? Why can the man not have ambition in his blue collar field? A car mechanic can begin as a student or apprentice, then move up to a car mechanic, eventually becoming the lead mechanic and later open his own garage.

Same for a plumber, electrician, carpenter, furniture mover, landscaper, craftsman... And it still does not mean less intelligent, or even less educated since, as someone else pointed out, to reach a certain level you have to be all kinds of certified. </font>
