Duppy was a part of the willy Lynch teachings to th slaves.

Teach them that another slave has the power to hurt you with duppy and create animosity between them.

without distracting from the point,..but lets just say you know someone and you are a lot stronger than the person,physically,you are confident that in a fight you would without doubt swat this person like a fly,....then the person dies..and now he is a duppy,....

can he "hurt" you?..how?...if someone is incapable of hurting you whilst they are alive how can they hurt you when they are dead?...and if we think its capable for a "duppy" to harm someone on what basis do we believe this...like everything its all based on fear of the unknown...no one in the history of time has ever died and come back to speak of where they have been,or any extra power that is gained whilst dead.....fear of the dead is irrational...if they cant harm you when they are alive,how can they do it dead..

This pscycological technique was there since Africa. It did not need any help from Lynch.

yourself is not what you know it to be.
The harm started once you swat "the fly".
This is not a fear case, but a supernatural one. Strenght is weakness. You are refering to the strenght of the physical body, but the being is made up of different elements. The decayed body can of course robotically do you no harm. All other possible harm causing elements will remain after death.

so if we all posess "harm causing elements"when we are alive,and we are to assume that when you die the body decays,how is it possible for the bodyless "element to be more powerful than a living human...and if it is,..on what evidence or reasoning can we attribute this newfound power when a body dies?.....and above all,..if it was possible for a dead person to "walk" the earth again after death and *was* capable of doing anyone any harm,..why is it that murdered people do not "come back" to wreak revenge on their killers,?..after all,revenge is in all of us,and being murdered would be sufficient reason to return to kill the person who killed you.

Sukuna,Were you in Africa at that time,or you have relied on the information handed down to you by the slave masters,through indoctrination of the natives?
As I said they have created a body of culture,tradition and history for us telling us that this was our true history and we believe to the point where even when means our constant degredation,we hold on to it.
It is like the monkey and the peanut,he will never letgo og the nut even when he is captured as a rssult of it and is about to loose his life.

Dr. Dudd, I hardly believe what any stemming from the slave masters tell me.

I am in contact with lots of Africans, especially the fetish worshipers or whatever they are called. I ask them about many things the my parents told me. INFORMATION VERIFIED, SOURCES KNOWN.

What my peraents passed on to me are things which the slave masters tried to root out. I don't know what the monkey example should imply, if the peanut is his Obeah, it is definitely not the thing which made him caught, but his protection.

I also know what obeah/voodoo is and any fear caused by it had nothing to do with Mr. Lynch, but the core of obeah itself.

It would be lynching which would now bring me to point the finger on me and my forefathers and put down the little bit of culture which I have left. As well as to deny my origin, without this knowledge, I am a dumb, displaced soul

The harm causing elements of the physical body is interchange with the spirit of the body. That is, when the body is present, the spirit is weak, when the spirit is present, the body is weak.
It all depends on which type of philosophy or logic we are using and that is the greatest source of confusion today. My parents would say that the spirit will torment his murderers. It will, in all spiritual form. The dead cannot walk when he has no physical body. The power is released when the spirit is released from the body.
They say that it is possible to ask the dead who killed him. With his help, the person who finds out will take the revenge. They will also use him to do it, so according to the logic, he took his revenge.

It dosen't surprize me of your beliefs Sukuna,not about this subject,not about anything,and you are not alone, but the level of popularity of a belief dosen't guarantee truth.
It took one man Lynch to change the beliefs of the slave owning population of the world and in so doing changed the way Africans see themselves.
It will possibly take just one person to correct this wrong.
It will not be easy,but it will be done in time.
May be you are not aware that there was no part of Africa that was not enslaved by Europe either.

Whatever believe you are talking about, I am blind, because I refuse to see myself in the context of the very language I am using. It is not my own.

As a matter of fact, I wonder what your point is. Are you saying because we fell into slavery we should drop our traditions if there is any left, because it might get us into more trouble?

Again, that is the goal of lynching.

I did not jump on to a bandwagon of pop-religion, as a matter of fact, it is the most dangerous and the most secretive. I know many who pick up any old culture/religion as they please, that is their business and it is also understandable.

Lynch only utilized what the African mentality already had. Many of the West African gods are described as having long hair, the hair extentions worn by Africans which have over the years become tradition, signifies that self-hating is a part of African culture in contact with foreign cultures, this is exhibited in fashion and cosmetics. The San people(bushmen) never developed hair extensions. All that was before they encountered the whites.

African culture is a slave culture. There is no part of the globe where Africans had not been slaves there: India, Turkey, China, Pacific - all before the whites took African slaves. African train children to be slaves to parents - and that is still a norm in the West Indies today.

Africans were also never against taking any race of women as they please, as a matter of fact they always took of the daughters of elsewhere - plenty room for lynching [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Africans did always had a caste system, a very strick one at that - so aparently Lynch thought he was dealing with the uncultivated. The one with the most gold, the most women, the most cow, etc. is king.

Mother raising daughters was normal in West Africa, though lynch made a good guess with the men, because they running wild until this day.

I am not going to lynch myself, sorry dr.dudd. I am not going to favour anybody more than myself and my forefathers. First of all, one has to accept his situation, then make the betterment. Anything else is self destruction.

After all, is Obeah and Voodoo that did neutralize some of the lynching [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
They did use it to lessen the by-products of lynching you see. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

What freedoms did they have?

Who own the children of the slaves?

....and who decides where the children grows?

Why would a slave master allow a child to grow up with the mother??

What do you know of the slave society?

Why do you think that African culture was a slave culture??

Was it because you read it ot you relied on on oral histoty??
