Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.

I think I am able to type something now.

As aforementioined, it is simply amazing that a person's departure-you have never met personally but interacted with in the virtual world-can have such an impact. Marcia's departure from this earth has made such an impact on me. Words cannot unduly express how sorely she'll be missed on this board. She was certainly our Beloved Administrator! She was family!

She commanded such respect as Marcia/Admin, as Ackeegirl/member she was the down to earth 'town' girl. She was the 'mother' who did not have to speak or act. She would just "raise her eyebrows" and people would fall in line. I remember when I found out that Ackeegirl and Marcia were actually one person. I was interacting with both for awhile and had no idea that they were the same person. I remember she found it quite amusing!

Today is certainly a sad day for the departed ones. Earth has indeed lost a wonderful human being but heaven has gained an angel.

To the family: We are grieving with you. You are certainly in my prayers throughout this time. May the God of peace who saw it fit to beautify his garden with this precious rose, continue to be a comfort to you all. Continue to let Him be your strength-through each other.((((Family and Friends)))))

I first met Marcia at a bashment organized by Reggae Plus in a restaurant in Toronto's west end. I was a relatively new member of Jamaicans.com, so it would have been about 2000. In our conversation with each other, we realized that she worked in a government ministry where I used to work, and we knew some people mutually.

Within a few months, I was back in a job in the same ministry and building with Marcia. Only four floors separated us. Yet, at the time we rarely communicated, me being a shy person and her being a private person.

We really came to work more closely together on Jamaicans.com when I was trying to set up the bulletin board appearance of United People's Party and Antoinette Haughton in 2001. That got delayed because of September 11, but Marcia and I kept in touch via e-mail at work. We were both watching the mood of the board, which, understandably, was volatile as to members' reactions to the terrorist attacks. We wanted to make sure things were calmed down before trying again to get the UPP on Jamaicans.com. We found a time, we worked together with the moderators of the Political forums to get it together, and it was a great success.

I met up with Marcia again at another bashment at R+'s house. In one of the quiet moments in between all the activity, we got to talking. She confided that she felt it was a burden being the admin, not just because she was the only one. It also seemed being in charge of the board affected her ability to enjoy bashments, because where other members could laugh and joke and discuss other members, she couldn't join in because of her role as admin and watchdog for the board. Marcia seemed to hold herself to a really high standard of impartiality - she wanted no-one to be able to say that if a time came when she had to make a hard decision or take a stand, that she couldn't do so because of a friendship with the board member in question.

My visits to her cubicle downstairs at work to see her in person started up in earnest after I became a co-admin. When I wanted to tap into her technical knowledge of the board, or just run an idea by her of how to deal with a situation, I found it very helpful to vist her as opposed to e-mailing her. It was at one of those drop-in visits that I finally learned more about the illness and operation she had gone through earlier in the year. She told me she had suffered a heart attack during the operation. I was so shocked and concerned for her, but she seemed to have it worked out - a combination of working part time and taking things easy, one day at a time, as she got into better health.

Things got busy with me, and I learned of her activities more through this board than from her directly. I noticed she was absent quite a bit - I thought she was just taking a break from us, to enjoy giving up the admin position. I saw that she had been to Atlanta. We "spent" time together Pon de Verandah, with britisha and afer and barosa and Q and others.

And then, I got this news this morning from Xavier's post. I flew downstairs and saw the empty cubicle, with the computer and desk lights off, but with a sweater still hanging up. I asked her co-worker, "Is it true?" And she said yes. I just broke down, and had to go to the bathroom to compose myself. When I came back, I spoke for a little with her co-worker. She said that Marcia had gone back into hospital, but because of SARS scare, she (the co-worker) couldn't visit. But, she said, Marcia still called her (the co-worker) from hospital to wish her a happy vacation, and to say "Hopefully, I will see you when you come back." Oh gosh.

In terms of actual time spent with her, I didn't know Marcia very long. But the relationship we did develop was able to impress on me her great strength of character. She was a woman of unshakeable conviction - a quality I greatly admire. She acted out of her values, and those values were solid in her. She strove to help keep Jamaicans.com to a higher level of conduct and behaviour - and this is something that is very hard to do, when dealing with so many people from around the world with so many different opinions and so many different ideas of their own of what is appropriate conduct. I only truly appreciated the magnitude of her contribution to the site when I became a co-admin with Reggae Plus and Bandido. I told her - I don't know how she did it on her own for all that time.

She was a dear woman, and I will miss her.

Marcia, ...In the brief time I came to associate with you on line, your personality was obviously one that permeates. Your interactions to all were genuine and cordial and were so pervasive and far reaching, it was like I had met you and personally knew who you were.

I will treasure the memories of our humourous exchanges on several of your favourites forums. At times you were comical and hilarious but you were always a LADY. ...Your illness was not known to me, but I can understand, somethings should be private and personal. You will be sadly missed.

You have gone on before us and now you are in a better place, where we all hope to meet someday.

All of us here at Jamaicans.com are a family and I know the loss we feel can not be put into words. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

I try to figure out why things like this happen. It just doesn't seem to make much sense.

Somewhere in heaven there must be some people warring and Marica's level headed advice and way of dealing with problems was needed. She always handled problems on the BB in the most professional manner possible. She was such an assest here, welcoming new members and consoling many other members through rough times.

My thoughts are with Marica and her family.

I have exhaled and I know it will be just fine. It is probably what Marcia would say. Her passing was a shock and has saddened me but I know her suffering and quality of life was unbearable. The medicine, the weekly hospital visits/stays and treatments never broke her spirit. I remember calling her on many occasions in the hospital and her first response was is everything okay with the site or it was a new idea/or article. She never grimaced through it all and was always good-humored. She was a strong person to the end.

She loved the Jamaicans.com website and the community here. She joined the website in 1996 as the very first moderator and revolutionized our bulletin board. I still remember the day I asked her to become the site moderator. She was just really happy to help out with the site and was honored. Little did she know involved she would get in this Jamaicans.com vision?

She created many of the standards of the board and encourages our online community. Her ideas grew the board and they many articles she has written for the site provided information to many Jamaicans.com site visitors. She created some of the popular terms we use for the board…DWL (dead wid laff) being one. There were many occasions in the early days of this site I was really down and just frustrated when she encourage me. The board especially has been a point of contention but she encouraged the growth and instilled ideas to ensure that would happen. I can truly say that she was the “heart” of this site. She is a true founder of this site and will live on in spirit here.

She was like a sister who would be honest and tell you like it is. She never forgot any occasion near and dear to my family. The cards and gifts came whether she was in a hospital bed or at home recovering from a procedure.

They say the way some one dies is a true reflection of their spirit. When I spoke to her sister today she told me she died with a big smile on her face. All I could do was smile. Actually I BOAL (Buss Out A Laff) after hanging up. It is just like Marcia.

In death and just as in life you will always be in my heart and the hearts of many of the Jamaicans.com website. She needed a new heart “medically “ but God knew her “heart” was good enough and took her home.

I will miss you for now but I know we meet again in a better place…heaven. As some already mentioned, “Our loss is heaven’s gain”.

The news is so sad. I only know Marcia through the hours I've spent on Ja.com and her many posts that I have read. I can't claim her as a friend, but I can say that our loss has touched me in an honest way, made me sad and brought unexpected tears.

I remember someone asking once why, if we believe in God, do we shed tears when someone we care about dies. We shed those tears because we are hurt by the loss, but at the same time we pray for the happiness that awaits our friend. I'm sad but I'm also happy.

God bless her family, friends and the many people who's lives she has touched and affected. God bless our friend.
