There is nothing wrong with the word mzungu. It is a non-offensive African word for White. Would I go on a board from a country where the majority of the people are of Chinese descent and tell them they can't use a Chinese word for Black. PL-E-E-ZE!! It's like some white folks want to call the shots wherever they go.


I'm really not reading you jaith. You certainly are entitled to your opinion but the tourist thing is laughable. When you visit another country and you're on vacation, you're a tourist....end of story. If you're working there either on a permanent or temporary basis that's a different story. Then you could correctly say that the individual is a business person on a business trip. However, I travel a lot and work in different places and would never be offended if someone called me a tourist. Onoo getting to be WAY too touchy now.

oh could someone please give me a break.....imagine how "touchy" many of the readers of this board would be if someone (let's say a MZUNGU), started a thread titled Black Sex Patterns...and expected a reasonable discussion. IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN.

Again, i ask, where is the intrigue in exploring other race's sexual exploits, whether it be on vacation or otherwise? what's the fascination?

I submit that the thread was posted with the explicit intent to set up yet another black v white, my people are better than your people rehashing of the same crap. slightly different words....same message....same haterz...different day.

...I've resisted jumping into THIS ONE until now. I didn't read but one page of the mzungu sexploit thread and it's not my gig anyway....but I gotta say this: I can't for the life of me figure out what does or doesn't belong in Jamaicaholics. We had an "Apostles" thread that I thought should have been in "Bashments". The MissMonroe "done me wrong" thread that I thought should have been in "Dear K" or "Feedback". Then one I posted...that didn't belong anywhere. ...and then there's all that morning chat stuff that has nothing to do with anything but being friends...which I think ought to have it's own forum. So....that being said,...let's all raise our glasses and toast to the wonderful state of "near deafening anarchy, love and frustration, and the emotional rainbow" that this site provides....and praise the chaos that is Ja.com! Nanook here. I spoke of why I did not believe that the thread belonged in Jamaicaholics in the thread itself on page 5. Due to time constraints I didn't have a chance to visit that thread and comment and this one too. Here is a link to the page...

I did not transfer the topic over the comments though. I do not believe this is a tourist topic but rather a cultural one.

I have to agree I had a "raise eyebrow" moment when I came across the thread for the first time. I do not understand the fascination some people have with WHITE people and sex.

As far as sex tourism goes, people of every race participate. It is my humble opinion that this thread would have had a lot more credibility if the subject had been sex tourism...as opposed to having a lone race of people singled out.

Nanook, I call it serious heat you call it "quite a few comments". I belive we're saying the same thing. It's odd to move a thread after about 12 or so pages but you made your decision. Bottom line is some weren't happy with the topic. The thread was started as a light observation after some recent travels. It emerged into a thread where we were really having some meaningful constructive and conflict free discussion. One person sistacalf, attempted to disrupt a thread that was flowing nicely. Geocox agreed with her and it lookds like there was suss-suss going on backstage. Yes I call that serious heat you call it "quite a few comments". The bottom line is that some weren't happy with it. If you hadn't received "quite a few comments", I doubt that it would have been moved. Not saying that there was anything sinister on your part. I know you want to keep peace and quiet in the forum you moderate.

What is of concern is why is it that some and yes I am going to say it White boardites feel that they have a right to dictate whether or not we can discuss race related threads. Race is a factor in the Jamaican reality. Race is a factor in sex tourism. Sex tourism is having a negative impact in Jamaica and in Asia. Like it or not and there is not a thing wrong with discussing it. The posters who are offended need to ask themselves "why?".

I dunno Tropi. Where I live we have a serious problem with a different kind of sex tourism. Young girls in their early teens are being exploited by sailors from every country on the globe. They are sex slaves, actually FORCED into doing it and most of them are white. It is not just a WHITE thing.

Tropi...I believe anyone who get's offended by anything should ask themselves "why?"......but that's just not going to happen cuz not all people on the planet are enlightened to that DEGREE....and that's the challenge!...living with the "differences"....I would think that changing the venue of that particular thread really wouldn't make that much difference. Those interested will follow it. It's a powerful topic. The outline of forums here on Ja.com can't accomodate everything with all the nuances and subtopics that come up. ...and to my point, the majority involed are White. One cannot explore this issue without examining the racial aspects. They are significant.
