My boyfriend is in the living room hugging his sister when I walk through the door after hugging his Mother. I look around at the apartment and see more food that my eyes can take in laid out on the dinner table and kitchen counters. Mrs. Red had obviously been doing some cooking, she wanted to be sure her son got a nice home cooked meal when he arrived. There was ham and chicken, two types of macaroni salad b/c each of her children prefer a different style macaroni, regular salad, and a whole bunch of other foods. I instantly wished I felt better b/c I wanted to be able to eat everything in sight.

Big Red's sister, gives me a hug and it was nice for me to finally put a face with the voice on the other end of the phone. I had spoken to both Big Red's mom and sister before on the phone, but hadn't even seen a picture of either of them. It was amazing how much they all looked alike. I was envious of his sisters perfectly beautiful hair, and immaculate manicure and pedicure. She has the most elogant fingers and toes... it made me wish I wasn't such a tom boy growing up.

We get our bags out of the trunk and bring them into the house. Mrs. Red is busy fixing plates of food and fussing over her son. She is hugging him and I can feel how much she misses him. It was really nice to see my boyfriend with his mother like that. :love: I knew how much he had missed her, how lifted his spirits were anytime they spoke on the phone while he was at school... I knew he loved his mom and seeing him with her made my heart beat with happiness.

I could feel her eyes on me, stealing glances my way and watching my actions. I was struggling to not cough and hold my posture correctly... I wanted to look better than I felt. I decide go to the bathroom, frantically run my fingers through my hair, try to neaten up, and I wash my hands. I decide to tie my hair back but that only produced tight curls around my hairline, also I notice an atrocious bug bite or some kind of bump on my shoulder, great now I look crazy and like I have cooties. All my attempts at grooming were to no avail, I looked like I came straight from the mad house. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] We eventually all sit around the table and I realize I have said very little in the 20 minutes or so since I have been there. I know I have a personality and I am wondering where it is? I tell myself to relax and just be myself. She will either like me or she won't... there isn't much I can do about that.

We are sitting down when Big Red's sister, Camille, tells us that Stretch had been there earlier in the day. He had gone straight from Montego Bay to Kingston and was hanging out there at a friends house, waiting for us, before he went on to his families home in Portland. Apparently, Stretch had already been to Big Red's moms apartment and eaten his share of the big dinner cooked for us, and we were to call him once we finished eating.

I fix my plate, which consisted of a small salad and nothing else, and felt terrible that I didn't have an appetite for more. I knew Mrs. Red was looking at me like is that all she is going to eat???? I quickly gave Big Red a look and he explained to his mother that I wasn't feeling that well. She said she understood and quickly settled into a conversation with Big Red about all the things we had done so far. I couldn't help but feel she was wanting me to eat more, maybe I was just being paranoid about it, but I felt as though I insulted her. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Great BoundBrook, what a way to start the visit.

Still Christmas day

Sitting at the table, listening to his family talk to one another made me realize that his family is not so different from mine. I mean, sure my family is loud and obnoxious and there is nothing off limits as far as conversation goes... and his family is a little more reserved... but still his relationship with his sister is not so different than my relationship with my brother. I realized I really had no reason to be uncomfortable.

While we are sitting at the table eating when the front door opens and in walks Stretch. For some reason this really helped to soothe my nerves. Stretch has a very easy going way about him, and is in fact a great story teller. He is amusing and funny [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] and his coming over relaxed me a lot. He came right in, fixed himself a plate of food and sat right down at the table with us. He called Mrs. Red Mom, and I knew he was a member of the family. If he could fit in so easily I knew I really had nothing to be worried about. Withing minutes Stretch is entertaining us with stories about this and that and I end up laughing my head off. I was grateful he was there.

After dinner I help Mrs. Red carry dished to the sink but she won't hear of me helping her wash a thing. I end up sitting on the couch with my boyfriend, his sister, and Stretch. We are laughing and talking and I really started to get comfortable. A few minutes later Mrs. Red goes into her bedroom and calls my boyfriend in the room right behind her. Now it is just Camille, Stretch and myself in the living room. I am sitting there quite, trying so hard to stiffle my coughs and fighting the urge to lay my head down.

About half an hour later I hear my name being called by Big Red and I am asked to join he and his Mom in her bedroom. I sit on the edge of the bed and in a matter of seconds it is just she and I left on the bed. Big Red slipped out and joined Stretch in the living room leaving his Mom and I alone. She hands me a pillow, ask me to get comfortable and wonders if I need anything. I tell her I am fine, just having an allergy to something, and thanks for asking but I don't need a single thing. In a matter of moments she and I are laughing about what Big Red was like as a child and I have never been so entertained in my life. She had the best stories about my boyfriend when he was younger and I enjoyed hearing every single one of them. We pulled out old pictures and sat in her room for well over an hour laughing and looking at each of them. One of my favorite things to do is look at photos, I mean I look at my own photo albums over and over again reminiscing about each picture. I was so happy looking at those photos and really felt like I was connecting with his mother.

Next thing I know the phone is ringing and Camille comes into the bedroom and tells her mom the phone is for her. That is one thing I noticed about my boyfriends family. You see, in my family, if the phone rings for you and someone else answers it they just yell your name "BOUNDBROOK, PHONE!" ... "OK, I got it," You yell in reply. In my boyfriends family if you need someone or want to get someone's attention you get up from what you are doing and go to them, there is no yelling. It was really nice.

Once Camille said that Mrs. Red had a phone call I excused myself from her room and joined Strech and Big Red in the living room. Once it was just the three of us in the room I was able to just collapse and lay my head down, I did just that. That was when Big Red told me that his grandmother had called Mrs. Red right after we left her house earlier that afternoon. "Oh really?", I ask... Curiosity eating away at me, I was dying to know what his grandmother said to his mother about me. My boyfriend knew this and was teasing me and holding out on the information he knew. "Fine," I say " I imagine it couldn't have been to bad or else you wouldn't even have brought it up..." He smiles and tells me the best news I have heard all day. "My grandmother said you were very mature and humble, that you had a nice easy spirit about you... and you had tall hair."

I smiled real big at that comment and was glad things were going so well.

I was sitting on the couch smiling to myself [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] about the comments Big Red's grandmother made about me when Big Red turns and looks at me and asks if I am ok. I break down and tell him I really don't feel good and wish I had something to make the coughing stop. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]ray: He immediatly gets up fixes me a cup of tea and finds some cough syrup in the medicine chest. He went so far as to pour out the measured dose for me and brought the spoon to my lips. It felt good to be taken care of like that... and that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Mrs. Red walks into the room and joins us all in the living room. She picks my purse up off the floor and ask who it belongs to. I raise my head from the arm of the chair and let her know it is mine. "Boundie, dear, we don't keep our purses on the floor, it keeps you poor." She gave me a smile and a little wink [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] and I knew everything between she and I was alright.

Stretch and Big Red had been talking about going out to a christmas party all night long. I was wondering where in the world I was going to get the strength from to go out especially since the cough syrup was giving me medicine head and making me very sleepy. I asked Big Red about going out later and he said it was still up in the air. I said I may not make it out but still thought that he should go out and enjoy being out with his best friend. Similar to me thinking his mom would want to spend some one on one time with Big Red, I also thought he and Stretch should go out and have some fun together. Big Red just looks at me and says everything is still up in the air, lets just see how you feel a little later. I agree but in the back of my mind I knew I wasn't going anywhere.

Mrs. Red asks me if I would like to take a hot shower, that maybe it would breakup some of my congestion. I quickly agree and she hands me soft, fluffy, clean bath towels and it makes me want to cry. You know when you feel terrible and for some reason it just makes you weepy? That is how I was feeling, plus the cough medicine really did a number on me.

I come out of the shower only to see that Stretch had showered in the other bathroom at the same time as me and the couch was being made into a bed for him. That sealed it, none of us were going anywhere and Stretch was staying the night. Mrs. Red and I sat at the kitchen table and continued our chat from earlier being sure to laugh exta loud at the more embarrassing stories about my Big Red when he was little. Big Red was not amused. As the night went on, Mrs. Red ended up making everyone a sandwich and slicing Christmas cake for everyone as well. I still had no appetite and couldn't eat a bite. I felt badly all over again, I could tell she just wanted to feed me. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Eventually it became bed time and I wondered what in the world the sleeping arrangements would be. The apartment was a two bedroom apartment. Camille had a room and Mrs. Red had a room. There were two couches and Stretch had one of them. Where in the world were we going to sleep? A few minutes later my questions were answered when Camille walked out of her room dressed to go out. She was going out with her boyfriend and staying the night with him, that freed up one bed. I was told that I would be sleeping in her room and Big Red would be on the other couch. I immediatly protested. I was sick and coughing and was not comfortable sleeping in someone elses bed, getting mt germs everywhere. Bid Red and his mother would hear nothing if it, sheets can be washed I was told, now go get comfortable.

I climb into Camille bed, with it's crisp clean cotton sheets and am asleep before I can even close my eyes. I don't even think it was 11 p.m. I was just so exhausted and looking forward to sleeping that I couldn't force my eyes open another second. Plus I knew the next day we were going to make the long drive to Negril, and try to get some sun during our week long vacation.

A few hours later I am awoken by someone climbing into the bed with me.

I"m just loving this story.Sorry you were sick though,I got sick on the last couple of days in Negril 2 years ago.I had gotten into the cold swimming pool and for the rest of my trip I was barking like a St. Bernard.
