Now before I go on to tell the rest of the story I want to make it very very clear that this trip to Jamaica, despite my being sick, was the best trip I have ever ever ever had in my whole life. I got to see the family life in Jamaica which was entirely new to me. I mean sure I had met my ex's mom but that was nothing compared to this trip. Big Red and I were planning our futures together and it was important that our families approved of our significant other. Not only was I seeing the family life in Jamaica, I was seeing new parts of the island and Big Red wanted to make sure I got to experience every place we went.
I remember on Christmas day sitting on the couch at Mrs. Red's house and Stretch saying to me, "So Boundie, you are getting to see an entirely different side of Jamaica, what do you think?" You see, I know Stretch from my last boyfriend. He happens to be my ex's neighbor and has been my friend from my very first visit to Portland. He knows all the sticky details of my previous relationship and knows that my relationship with Big Red is about something entirely different.
I remember sitting on the couch and thinking that I am seeing a different side of Jamaica. I am sitting in my boyfriend Mothers house drinking sorrell and laughing my head off. I was having the best time and really feeling a part of things. No matter how badly I felt I still was having the time of my life and enjoying every second of my time in Jamaica.
I had so many wonderful experiences, like being called prissy by Big Red when I wouldn't drink coconut water out of the coconut, I made him pour it in my water bottle. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] I didn't want to make a mess b/c it just happened he stopped for the coconut when we were on the way to meet his mother. He called me prissy and I snapped back "LOOK!, :verymad: I just don't feel good and I am going to be cranky... do not call me names." [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] As soon as I heard the words come out of my mouth and saw the grin spread across Big Red's face at my little outburst... I laughed pretty hard at myself. I have never been called prissy before in my life and the whole event turned out to be pretty darn funny to me. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]
I remember sitting at the kitchen table with Stretch and Big Red and Stretch telling stories about his previous car, endearingly called the Ba**y rida... and how now that he had a new car it shaved an hour off his trip from Portland to Kingston. The Ba**y rida stories are my favorite ones to hear. Imagine 6 foot 5 inch tall Stretch climbing in and out of a tiny hatchback car that's driver side door stuck on occasion so he had to climb in through the trunk... I loved seeing Stretch in that car but was even happier for him when he bought a new one...
I had so many good times in Jamaica, and so many laughs with Big Red. We never wanted to leave...

Boxing Day continued
We get into the hotel room and I pop Tylenol sinus/cough nightime relief in my mouth. In about half an hour I had medicine head so bad that I had to get in bed. I think it was around 10 p.m. Big Red climbs in bed with me and rubs my back and plays in my hair ( his favorite thing to do) until I am fast asleep.
Then it happened...
I woke up around midnight unable to breath.
Seriously I could not get a deep breath to save my life and I started panicking. I had taken so much medicine that day and it had all caught up with me, I couldn't think clearly and I could not calm myself down. It hurt to breath, I couldn't get a deep breath and I was crying uncontrollably. The last time I was sick with a respitory infection I ended up having asthma as a result and was in the emergency room having oxygen strapped to my face. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to breath and that I would feel like that again...I was in full out panic/terror mode. The more I cried the more snot collected in my sinuses and the harder it was to breath. I couldn't breath through my nose, I could hardly breath through my mouth b/c my throat was so raw and my lungs hurt so badly I couldn't get a deep breath. I was panicked.
I am crying so hard that I can barely talk when I wake Big Red up. "Big Red... Big Red.... Baby... Baby..." I say. "Hmmmmm" Big Red replies in his half asleep voice. I bawl out with the last bit of breath and energy that I had "I FEEEEEL TERRIBLE" [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
I am crying and I know Big Red could barely understand me. He sits right up in bed next to me and can hear my shortness of breath. In between gulps of air I tell him I can not breath and I am panicking.
He puts my hand on his chest and tells me to feel his chest move with every breath he takes and instructs me to try and match his breathing. I had my hand on his chest feeling it rise and fall with every breath and was able to calm down enough to steady my breathing so that I could at least talk.
I am crying and I tell Big Red that I have been feeling terrible all along and I just can not fake it anymore. I need a doctor, I need an emergency room, I need something. I am in pain and I still can't get a good deep breath. The snot is running down my face and Big Red gets out of bed, grabs some tissue, and cleans up my face. Then he lifts me up off the bed and carries me to the bathroom. He is running the hot water and he puts my face over the sink and draps a towel across my head. I was so weak I could hardly hold myself up and Big Red held me around the waist and kept me over the hot steam for at least 15 minutes.
The steam was helping, it cleared some of my congestion and was helping to calm me down even more. When I was just too tired to stand over the sink for another second Big Red carried me back to the bed and proped me up with all the pillows in the room. He says if I start to feel panicked again I am to listen to the ocean outside and concentrate on the waves breaking along the beach. He is worried about me and I know he will not fall back asleep at all. I tell him again that I need a doctor and he says first thing in the morning we will find one.
I roll over and find my cell phone on the nightstand and start to call Trelawny small. I look at the clock and decide against that and I call my friend Fortylegz (from the BB) b/c he lives in Negril and would know where to go. I wasn't worried that it was about 1 a.m., if I were home Forty and I would probably be on MSN chatting, I knew he would be awake.

I was just getting ready to say the same thing.
You don"t look sick at all on the beach,you have the "Twinkle in your eyes."
Hey tell Big Red he has a cousin in New York named Mikey. They look so much alike.When I was about 9 or so my friend use to come for the summer and visit his family in Virginia. I don"t know how we became boyfriend and girlfriend,he would come over and all we use to do is climb the apple tree and eat apples and pears while we watched the big guys playing football in our yard. I also remember making him mud pies! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]
Everytime I use to see Kid n play from House party I would think of Mike.
BTW- I have gotten sick like that before too, you start to panic because you can"t breath.Next time go into the bathroom close the door and turn on the shower faucet to hot and that will cause the whole bathroom to steam. It really helps and once I did this to a little girl who I was taking care of. She was fine when she went to sleep but when she woke up she had this cough,that sounded like a barking seal.I put her into the bathroom and opened the hot water faucet.
I called her mom who inturn told me to call the ambulance.By the time the ambulance came she was breathing okay and they told me that I did great by sticking her in the bathroom. It ended up as being whooping cough.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, I see now why BB is always online.
Well, what BB neglected to tell you was that it really was HER fault I got caught in that speedtrap. After evading no less than 10 speedtraps coming all the way from Kingston and being 10 minutes from our destination, she insisted on telling me a story about the singers at the airport, you know the ones that greet you after disembarking the plane? That story was the reason why I was distracted and missed seeing those suckers parked under a tree along the roadside.
I was only doing 75mph in a 50mph zone, but I ended up getting a JA$5,000.00 ticket. All thanks to BB.
I gave them my DC license, but they still wrote a ticket becuase the car was insured in my fathers name and to a residential address.

[img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] Big Red the same thing happened to my husband and myself when the van driver was taking us to the airport from Ochi! The darn police pulled us over and gave our driver a ticket,my husband taped them on the sly.
Later when the driver stopped for a break my husband bought him lunch and a drink,he opened up and told us that he use to be a cop and those guys always mess with him. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] I felt so bad that he got the darn ticket taking us to the airport we gave him an extra big tip hoping that would cover the ticket. We just came back from jamaica about 3 weeks or so and we didn"t even see the singers this time they weren"t there!

(((boundie)) I was panicking with you as i was reading.. feeling my throat and nose close off and wanting air....... I know that feeling.... and being away and the middle of the night makes it all the more terrifying...
your man seems wonderful.. how he propped you over the steam in the sink.. the way he stands by your side... I think you've finally found your match....
Your story is wonderful.. thanks so much for sharing it all with us... by the way... is there a doctor to go to so late in the night.. or would you have had to go to Sav to the hospital?Comment
