Re: Trip Report (IT'S FINISHED!)--Meeting the parents (ALL PICS INCLUDED!!)
Our last day
KNOCK! KNOCK! there is a knock on my bedroom door. I squint at the clock only to see it say 6 a.m. I am half asleep and my mind is groggy. Where and I, What day is it, Who am I? As soon as I can think it, it all comes to me. I know who I am, I know I am in Jamaica, and I know it is my last day there. I rub my eyes just as the bedroom door opens. I open my eyes but the light coming from the hallway flood's the dark room so I couldn't see who or what was at the door.
Then I hear Root's quick patois telling me that he is off to work and wanted to say goodbye.
I prompty hop out of bed (listening to my feet hit the tile the entire way )and go over to where he stands in the doorway. I wrap my arms around his neck and give him a hug. His body is warm and it feels nice to hug him having just stepped out of a warm bed and onto cold tile. I thank him for everything, tell him how much I enjoyed meeting him, and tell him I can't wait to come back to cool cool Mandeville. He tells me his home is open to me anytime and tells me to have a safe flight.
Big Red and I walk him to the door and see him off to work. As he is getting in the car he explains that one of the men who works for him will be coming by at around 11 a.m. to carry us to the airport. Big Red and I thank him for making those arrangements for us and wave goodbye as he drives away.
No sooner is Root's gone before Big Red and I are back in my bed fast asleep. I set the alarm for 9 a.m. and felt I had only been asleep for seconds when it went off. Big Red and I get out of bed and while I shower Big Red makes breakfast.
That morning went so fast. Between packing all of our things and running to the grocery store to buy all the goodies we needed to carry back for everyone, the morning slipped away. 11 a.m. came far to quickly for me.
The car ride to the airport was a quiet one.
Big Red was in the back seat fast asleep
while the driver and I made small talk about the condition of many of the roads in Jamaica. I wanted to cry the entire ride but knew that I had way to much to be happy for and managed to maintain my composure.
