With all due respect to you, that is a bunch of nonsense that has been spreading around for years. I have heard those statements floating around for years and there is little truth to it. There is always two sides to every story. If you dig deep enough you will find the truth. There are a few circumstances that exceptions are made, but for the most part the, same opportunities that foreigners make use of, are also available to American Citizens. If anything it is the other way around, there are far more things and benefits available as an American Citizen than if you have Alien status. [/qb]

As I have stated and will hold to, American people are excluded from certain opportunities that aliens are granted and there will always be the contention that this is true or not true. Both sides will always see it as so. So it goes.

I was always very proud to eat from these kind of individuals regardless of their circumstances in life, because they were so clean and exhibited so much pride in themselves, in spite of their status in life. They were always striving to make their surroundings better than it was by being resourceful with the little that they had. I have had some of the best times and had some of the best meals in surroundings like these, and would happily go even now if invited to partake.

If one don’t exhibit pride on one self, it comes through loud and clear.

Remember these are the descendants of people, who during slavery days kicked the British Soldiers butts and got them out of Jamaica. That is another topic, but I said that to illustrate that my people as a whole don’t believe in sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and making feeble excuses, we have enough pride and self-respect to tek di bull by di horns an duh suppen bout it.

that is the problem I have with some young people recently. They have this dumb Idea that aliens get all the or get welfare at higher rates than Americans.
Wht I know is that in the majority of areas wher there is a large Jamaican population in these Uniteed States, jamaicans own their own homes at a higher rate than the general population.
When I was in college and at the college i teach now,the majority of Jamaicans that get any financial support,are given to them on academic achievement.
tI suppose you all must have seen me posting about ,my getting admission within 1 week of applying to my med school,and had this other student that on hearing that I was accepted. He staed that it was because I was a 'minority' In this case it would be because I am was 'alien'.
Only to accuse me of carring my entrance rsults to brag.
This happened because on his telling me that I was granted a favour,I showed him my results I had in my shirt pocket.
His mouth dropped,when he saw that I passed in the top 5% of all who took the exams.

The truth is that Jamaicans make it better than African Americans because we get better opportunities in Jamaican schools.

Doc, isn't that a bit of over-simplification of a very complex problem?

First of all (using year 2000 data). The entire population of Jamaica is about 2.6 million compared to 35.5 million African-American in the US. The numbers become even more disparate when you compare Caribbean Immigrants to this 35.5 million. So, logic dictates that in the USA the number of African Americans who are prospering far outstride Caribbean Immigrants, just based on numbers.

While the vast majority of Black Americans are left out of the promise American made, (Just as are the vast majority of Jamaicans in Jamaica) there are regions of the country where those stats don't hold water...Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, etc.

Overwhelmingly, the Black institutions of higher learning are in the Southern USA (Howard, Meharry, Drew, Morehouse, Spelman, Hampton, Fisk,Grambling, TSU, etc)...that's were you'll find the brightest and most motivated African Americans. And the role models are there too.

Overall, we as Jamaicans, have no advantage over Black Americans.

I am a resident and not an american citizen, and I *know* that there are certain benefits, and priveleges that I cannot receive and,certain jobs that I cannot even apply for as a non-citizen...

I still don't understand how it could be even thought that it is easier for Jamaicans to come here and succeed because they get benefits which american citizens cannot get.

As I went thru the process to get my residency, I was entitled to nothing from the system, and got nothing.... and now if I were ever in the unfortunate circumstances that I had to get, government assistance, I would do so know that my husband and I have paid our fair share of taxes into the system.

In all fairness, let's not take this out of context. Why not quote the entire text? I made that comment in response to you saying that Americans believe that they are entitled to certain privileges and that we receive them. If that is the case, I have not received my so-called privileges and I want my share. Since we don't have to work for what we need but wait for handouts, as you erroneously stated, I won't work again until I get mine. That was the response to your comment. Mi done on this.
