About the Couple.

He operates a successful business in Jamaica for the past 7 years and she works in an administrative position in New York City.

We first crossed paths when we I was about 14 and he was about 15. He used to hang out next door. I didn't like him because he used to be very mischievous even in those days.

We casually said hi but never really talked much. We went our separate ways after graduating highschool. Me from Herbert Morrison Tech and he from Cornwall College.

I moved to the US and he came here briefly but didn't like it and went home.

I happened to write something one day and he sent me a message we talked for months unknown to anyone but having shared inner most secrets about out lives we still hadn't exchanged any pictures.

It wasn't until the pictures were exchanged we realised we knew each other. He knew me by my nickname not my formal name which is what I now go by and like i said I didn't know his cuz he was always finding something to do to make me mad like peek over in the washroom where we changed our clothes or putting oil on the steps.

The Engagement:

We had been visiting each other for quite some time and April we decided to see where it would go. He came here and closed down his business for three months to be with me. It was at this point I realised that I was not only fond of him but I truly am in love with him.

I had never known what it was like to come home to an expensive gift or dinner just because he thought i deserved it.

These three months were designated at the *decision* maker in our relationship.

Engagement Part II

He left in July to make preparations with my family and help them with the planning of the grandmother's memorial service.

I left New YOrk City the day of the Blackout and went through 5 airports to get home. When I cleared immigration he was inside the airport with my bags already pulled and I walked straight through *di man know peeple* lol.

We drove from montego bay to St. Elizabeth after I met my extended family. On the drive we were laughing and talking and very relaxed.

On the drive back after the service, he told me he had something he wanted to ask me.

We went home met my in-laws again and what was to be my new sisters.

It felt good to be home..........

I went to take a shower and he said we were going to dinner.

We ended up in a very secluded area where he told me to be quiet. He told me he loved me and he's nto quite sure how we're gonna do this but he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

He doesn't want to leave Jamaica I have my life here in New York. He is very successful in Jamaica I am equally successful in New York.

We talked about it and agreed that God would lead us but if we are to continue a relationship not being married it wasn't right in the eyes of God.

We started planning.

In Dec he called and apologised for not being here but would be here for New Years so we can shop for my ring. I said ok. I was depressed so you can imagine my surprise when I came home on Christmas eve and he was there [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

we wrapped the gifts and while we were wrapping he handed me a box. inside the box was a lot of paper and I was ****** cuz I thought he was being mean to me. I finally got frustrated and he said baby look some more. The ring was at the top fo the box.

He saw the look of surprise on my face cuz I was expecting us to go pick it out together. He said no that's not traditional *but coo pan him too*

anyway it is the most beautiful ring........

The Location:

We thought best to find a location first then find the cost and basedon that we would build our guest list.

He suggested St. Elizabeth, I thought of Jahlive and Bim driving up Long Hill and said ummm don't think so. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I suggested Ritz Carlton, he said no, he does't want to get married with places he does business with.

We went through Villas (Thanks IrieStar) but either they weren't good enough or something was wrong. Here is where I experienced my first urge to kill him.

I went through each and every villa in Montego Bay.

I left the location up to him and must admit the boy has class. T picked out the most beautiful and majestic place you can ever find. It is a plantation restored and maintained by a couple and I could think of no where else to get married.

We got the price and moved on to plan the wedding Guest List

The Guest List.

Ok mek mi tell yuh sinting. If you are plannign a wedding please please elope. either that or marry someone who dont' knwo people.

We agreed on a list of 50 people. He whined and complained I said ok 60 people di man look pan mi an tell him seh im alone know 600 people I simply told them to pick toruble with them so he doesn't have to invite them dyam brite.

So the list right now stands at 80.

Each week I go through the follwing scenario.

T - baby we have to invite Joe

Me: - honey who's Joe

T - Joe is one of the tellers at the bank and he says hi to me all the time

Me: - Honey do you knwo Joe's last name

T - No baby

Me: Ok hon so we cna't send an ivitation

or another scenario is this

T - honey if we invite one more person it's not that bad is it.

Me: Baby if I marry someone other than you on the date that's not bad is it

I must say that I am not facing a problem with the guest list now because I have him on a strict budget but lawd him wuz going crazy.

on my side. - most of my friends are here in the US and my ex and I still have people we know in common. I struggled with the decision whether to invite them or not and decided against it.

I know I have lost some valuable friends but I beleive in a clean slate so I have to write those friends off.

My family - many people here know that my dad is my step father - I elected not to invite any of my biological father's family neither him.

I know this will cause a rift but I don't want those poeple in the memory of the happiest day of my life. They weren't there for the struggles only my mom and my step dad.

My cousin will walk me down the aisle cuz each time I talk of the wedding I see my step-dad eye's sorta watering. I think he knows that T and I will make it and that T is my best friend and that relationship we had where I used to be there all the while will change. NOt like the first marriage.

I don't think he can handle that.

Choosing the Attendants:

Ok this is the reason you should elope.

Bride - only child on ALL sides.

Groom 3 sisters 1 brother.

how do you figure this out.

I have my friends I would like to be in the wedding he wants ALL of his family in the wedding.

*second thoughts of strangling him occurred here*

T doesn't understand that you cannot put all persons in the wedding it is just not possible.

We had many fights about this. He especially upset me when he insisted that at least one sister was in it and I know the others would be upset.

I am settling on 1 Maid of Honor and 2 bridesmaids.

I can have all three sisters but where would my friends be.

We argued and argued and argued until I just told him one day that this is how it is going to be

all teh girls are my friends and all the guys ar ehis firends that way there is NO family participating except our mothers for the candle ceremony.

So it's settled

Female attendants - Mine

Male Attendants - His

Ushers - lawd this was another nightmare. "I don't want my sister's to be ushers" he said.

mi juss haffi nearly pinch him baxide but mi go a church di nite.

T has a habit of overdoing things. He is a showy person. e.g. the engagement had to be just perfect he wants the wedding to be perfect but I on the other hand want a simple elegant nice wedding.

There is a saying that if you make it through the planning and agree on all things by the wedding day you will make it together as a couple. Many times we came close but we are three months away and going well

Missis mi noh tellyou already seh if you a get married in a Jamaica and especially the rural area all the people in the district have to be there, just noh make bad blood be in the place.

Ppl will gi you one cow, 3 hag, 4 goat, couple bunch a banana, lend you couple zinc pan and mek up couple coaknat booth free of cost, and Miss Mary will bake some cake so there will be enough fi everyone.

The Food:

Since we found the place the woman does the catering also.

I can't quite remember what is on the menu but it sounds really good and I will be invited there when I go donw to eat the exact same meal served tot he guest when I arrrive for the wedding a few weeks before.

That wasn't without its drama too.

The problem here came with my mother. She wants a sit down dinner. We thought a buffet style would have been fine but she wants to be served so we argued about that till I gave up and we are having a formal sit down dinner @ mommy [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Then she got it in her brilliant head she wanted roast pork shoulder to be on the menu.

Ummmm did I mention my fiancee and his family is S.D.A. NO PORK!!!!!!!!!! She bex till this day.

dats why him did want fi go Southfield go get married. Him seh a country wedding him did want mi juss look pan him cause Southfield dut red like wah an mi frack was way too expensive fi wear and I will be damned if no likkle pickney weh just done nyam curry goat a go touch mi.

then since your mother will be at the bridal table she will be served and the other guests dem will go buffet
