Re: selassie natt blakk enuff
you oversimplify on many different levels....
some eritreans would not like selassie because they are a newley independent nation from ethiopia (former province) & many of them hate ethiopians full stop (even though they are brothers)...
you also have to remember that ethiopia is VERY ethnically diverse...so an oromo ethiopian may possibly speak ill of selassie while an amhara may say he was the greatest leader ethiopia ever had...you have to check the source;
I am well aware of that still...
now you say if 'memory serves you right' meaning you were there when selassie visited jamaica?
if so then you must know that selassie gave rastas in jamaica a legitimacy they never realized before that point...(i know i have the video)...
but most people's opinions on selassie are based on what they thought they heard or what they thought someone said...
No... I wasn't born yet LOL, as you mentioned, mi hear it from family and friends.
i myself know a lot of ethiopians who revere the emperor...
as far as the land grant given by the emperor to rastas in shashemene, when the communist dergue took over after his removal from power, they siezed most of the land from the rasta...it was only after the commmunist dergue was overthrown & mengistu fled to zimbabwe (after one of the bloodiest rules in africa) that the rasta was given back some of their land...
I know some Ethiopians revere the Emperor but some Ethiopians also hate him... a just suh di ting set. Some Ethiopians have expressed to me that some did not take too kindly to the land distribution ting. They had no problem with Rasta but they claim many were in poverty and saw that as a slap in the face. A just what mi a hear from people who lived there - for and against the Emperor.
now this 'god' thing is misundestood by many...you say he has arms and legs like you and me...didn't jesus christ have arms & legs? don't many people now worship him as god?
muslims & jews still think people who worship jesus are mistaken fools, so it's all a matter of philosophy...
Not me pushing di arms and legs hawgument... Ethiopians and Eritreans tell mi suh; his great great grand sons agree! However, I can see your point re comparison to Jesus being in the form of man etc.
selassie didn't give himself any god-like status...it is what it is...revelations was written & the black messiah has the title king of kings lord of lords conquering lion of the tribe of judah...
that's why rasta deal with reasoning because it would take a 10,000 page essay to express some of the mysteries...
one day mi wi reason wid de i
Zeen... This is where I can learn more about the Emperor no doubt... Mi always open to new knowledge.
