Sorry if I seem a bit nosy but it is kinda hard to understand this since there still is a rather small population of Africans/ Jamaicans/ etc. in Finland and none in a small town like the one I live in... [/qb]

So basically things are like I said before. I live in a small town and have only come across a few non-Caucasians, (exept for a few Asians, with whom I'm friends with) and to others I really haven't talked more than to give directions. There are mainly white people here, (like 99% or so,) dunno why, propably 'cause this place is so middle of nowhere that no one wants to come? That's one of the reasons we're doing this presentation. And the main reason for trying to dig some info out of you. Text- book ansvers on the attitudes between races really don't interest me.

So about attitudes in Finland I can't really tell anything but hearsay. Some say that all finns are racist, some say that this is a tolerant country. I'd say we do have our fair share of racial fanatics, but nothing comparable to the bigger European countries.
Rather, Finland seems extremely intolerant when it comes to fussing about race. Maybe we're trying to prove something?

Just remembered
There have been few incidents of which I know about, breaking windows and stuff like that but I'v heard of nothing really serious. Dunno if it's because nothing happens or because the people just don't talk about it...
On the more positive side, the Asian couple who keep the only Chinese restaurant in my home town are really liked and their kids are adored... They always toddle around the restaurant and aren't a least bit shy, so obviously they have only good experiences of people so far.

And to add my own perspective, I just find different colours and cultures interesting. All of them, basically. Before, I made some research on Asians, (Japanese) so I guess it just was your turn. (Really flattering itsn't it? To be someone's school project? Sorry [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] )

To add things up a bit, according to what Wiggin there said, on my perspective Finland is a good place to live in for all kinds of people (if u like cold, that is..). We're gettin more and more internationalized (is that a word [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] ?) and open to the world. Relations to other countries are good, and people are aware of things. Racism is a minor problem here, I'd say. Actually people are too smart to whine about foreigners. Might sound a bit naive, but that's the way I see it in Finland. Peace!

Most europeans try to speak with an american slang. More american television shows are exported around the world which has been the main influence.

I have a friend from Dubai who speaks like Rachel from Friends. They also like to copy the way the Sex and the City cast speak. People from Scandanavia tend to speak very much with an american slant.
