The other day I was confronting a friend of mine about her priorities. Imagine she and I were talking about her going back to school to finish her education. I gave her advise and where and how to start and resources out there that can be used. Everything was on the up and up ..well at least so mi tink.

Wan marning shi show up an sey shi jus buy new truck. Comes to fine out shi tek herself buy Lincoln Navigator. This is a girl living ina dumpy apartment complex with three kids. I asked her what about her plans for school and to get into to a house? She said she still has those plans. Dat was tree yrs ago and all NOW! The other day wi went out and shi a plan now fi sell di truck cause shi cyan afford di gas fi put in deh. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Let me tell you ..that is a bacteria that is resident in the black community and we continue to feed that bacteria. It’s all about show boat and they don’t try to have anything of substance. The CEO of my company now drive a Toyota Camry (90s model) and mi sure im have enough dallas can drive Lincoln Navigator but yuh si dem know sey luxury cyar noh have noh value an cyan mek money fi dem. It is sad to say but you often don’t see many Blacks engage in activities that will help them grow financial- it’s all about instant gratification and “measuring up”

Tell that truth Wendy. More pressed to drive an expensive vehicle, wear expensive clothes, and don't have pot to pizz in or a window to throw it out of. What on earth does a child need a pair of $100 sneakers for? Their feet grow so fast they will only be good for a couple of months -- TOPS!! If they had an emergency they wouldn't be able to do a dayam thing about it b/c there is no savings and no game plan. People die and leave their families in debt b/c of no plan. I have informed my family -- if something happens to me, my dawter will not be a financial burden to anyone. There is more than enuff money set up to take care of her and whoever will provide for her.

Game plan -- you have got to have one.

Even wid dat Dahjah ..im know seh yuh cyan a drive up Navigator bout di place when gas price so dam high - im would rada put di money ina investment dan dung im gas tank. An im naah use Lexus fi show afff.. im come a work as a simple man.

And don't get mi wrong nutten wrang wid black people having Navigators etc .. but my God sort out priorites fus an climb di ladda wan rung at a time.

Wendy, i feel u on this...my defining moment was recently in Sunday School class...this lady opined that she loved coming to the church and seeing all the high-end (my word) cars on the parking lot...she likes going to a church where the people LOOK prosperous...it is frightening to see how many r driving jags, bmws on state salaries, teaching saleries etc and then complaining about the second job that ties them up from doing church work

When I bought my house mi was jus barely outta college a mek entry level money. Mi neva have a RED CENT to mi name but **soh**.. but dere was sinting call di Intanet dat mi do sinting name SEARCH and fine out wah kina programs di government have out deh fi minorities fi get into homes. A so mi buy mi house ..wid lickle bit a trupance. Di program mi use was designed for single minorities making less than $X and they would pay most of the closing cost for you. Just come wid good credit and low down payment.

Mi was able to build mi very fus home at 27 yrs ole. Right now because of the housing market mi a siddung pan a lickle gole mine. Nobaddy neva tell mi sey cause mi black mi coulden get di house .. as a matta a fact is because I WAS BLACK I got the house!
