Whether or not the writer was a caucasian (sp), it's the contents of the piece that hits home. As painful as it may feel, there is truth in what it's saying. I work in the financial services industry and see those things every day. One of my passions is to educate people of color so they can understand the workings of the economic system we live and operate in. I have found out that it is very hard to do but if we start with the kids there is a chance to change this ingrained consumerism that's keeping us downpressed.

my situation is much like yours, with the exception of the degree..i haven't finished school yet, but I am going back to complete my education...
I invested alot of time & patience looking for those gov't programs that do assist us (minorty & single) in investing in real estate...
I wish more blk ppl would take the time to get there finances in order, our priority should not be with assimilation, it should be in education of our community

Be advised: The REPUBS have made a lot of those programs disappear. I have been checking, and many of those set up for single parents, minorities and the like have been cut. I checked out one program, and the deposit was now @ 10% - 20% of the cost of the house -- and housing in this area is out of this world in cost. Many of the sellers refuse to accept these programs now too (due to the market being in their favor), and if you want something in a "decent" neighborhood you are going to pay well over $200K ... and that's for a townhouse.

The south is looking better and better these days.
