MOST times when I have heard the word used it was describing a behavior or quality, NOT referring to black ppl.

I know some ghetto-azz white people, and I know some trailer trash Black people - who actually live in trailers.

I have a friend who dates this guy who lives in a trailer. She always talks about how "nice" his trailer is. "Girl, it's got a hot tub and cable tv and his bedroom is bigger than the bedroom in my house."

I'm not trying to dogg people who live in trailers, but here in the midwest (tornado alley), it's just not safe. She invited us over to his trailer (when he was out of town) for a girlfriend night. It stormed that night and I told her that I feared for my safety in the trailer, so I would not be attending her shin-dig.

She eventually moved in w/him.

Point is, I'm not calling them trailer trash b/c they live in a trailer. I understand that some people choose to live in a trailer and for some, that's all they can afford. I'm saying that you shouldn't be driving a Lexus and a Cadillac truck and still living in a trailer. That may fly in a state where tornados aren't a real threat, but here in STL, you need something more sturdy.

I lived in a trailer in San Jose, CA for a year, but I was trash long before that....

Living in a trailer in a place like Nevada or Cali is cool. That's a lifestyle to some people.

MY point is that it's just not safe here in the midwest, and if you can afford to buy a house, something that would stand firm in a tornado, then maybe you should do that.

ghetto things: (from my hood-some good, some bad)

changing food stamps for cash (more difficult nowadays, since food stamps are on electronic cards)

washing your clothes in the tub to save money for other priorities

knowing all the food pantry/clothing drives/christmas giveaways and traveling to them all!

WIC vouchers and the cranky cashier that has to scrutinize everything to make sure you dont get one ounce more than you're supposed to.

neighborhood hair cut sessions on the porch (or hairbraiding)

baby maddas on assistance who will brag that their baby has the latest Nikes (baby can't walk yet, mind you)

parents who don't have food for their kids, but have liquor and cigarettes

running basketball games and card games outside in the summer at all hours

knowing from the sound of the footsteps who is coming up the stairs, friend or cops

ditto with knocks on the doors

watching the neighborhood thugs run in the project gates cuz they know the cops most times won't bother to follow them

annoying letters from management telling you things like don't walk on the grass (when there is no blessed grass)

Sunday afternoons when everyone's blasting grown folks music

aaahhh the memories....
