I don't think the problem is as much of a racial problem (ie just black males) but a gender problem. The feminization of the Christian church is certainly alarming. I can see it in my church, which is Catholic. 80% female, the rest are men over the age of 70 it seems.

Christinaity is no longer appealing to men in general, for many of the reasons already stated. I read a great book a few years ago about the subject which I'll post later once I get the correct title.

The book is called

The Church Impotent: The Feminization of Christianity

by: Leon J. Podles

While the book deals a lot with Catholocism (it has to since the author's argument claims the feminization began in the Middle Ages), it by no means limits itself to that. I found it VERY interesting as well as alarming and highly recommend it to anyone concerned with the topic. It explains much.

Two words - reverse racism.

Black men believe that a spirit has a colour -caucasian.

We have so believed the lie that we never had a part to play in the christian story that we accept the feeling of inferiority hoisted on us by the eurocentric culture which painted the christian world caucasian.

So to accept an invisible God is to us accepting a white God, by which we are repulsed and therefore try to find alternatives.

The ancient world was the colour blind society, they described people more by rank and place of origin. Not all Ethiopians were black and not all Ephesians were white, your language and dress defined you moreso than your colour.

Billy Graham is said to have said that the greatest sin man has created was that of racism based on colour. Its a sin that the Devil have used to condemn a lot of black people to easy unbelievers.

The Bible says of christians in Hebrews 11, ...men of whom this world was not worthy.... it does not classify these men by colour or status just men.
Do black men believe God that they are men?

Did Martin Luthur King die for nothing. For it was in Memphis, Tennesee where he gave his life to support the black garbage collecters that were recieving half a man's pay for a day's work.

The week during which he was assasinated the Mayor of Memphis capitulated and agreed to pay these black men a man's pay for a day's work.

The next day these men became recognised as men in their paychecks but they were always men.

Two problems with black men,
1. We still struggle in the face of racism with our real worth as men, to us it is more a "man" to get five women pregnant and deny any of the kids is ours than to commit to one relationship through thick and thin and raise kids proud of what a man should be.

2. We feed the myth that being a man is all the length of the organ in our pants. Black Power.
Our power should come from our strength of character not only the length and colour of our tool.

Christianity is and remains the greatest liberating force this world have ever known.

Its about freedom from fear of what others think of you.

Freedom to boldly declare I will stand against the flow, I will walk alone with God if the whole world comes against me.

Christianity is not for wimps, not for the faint hearted, not for the crowd pleasers, a christian man must be willing to stand in a crowd of men and say I am not an abuser of women, I am sold out to one Lord, and that my friends takes courage.

Why are they so few black men in church, because it takes a real man to admit he need the strength of God to live a Moral and christian life and not too many men want to say that.

Its too easy not to.
But the Bible did warn that not many wealthy and few wise follow the way of the Lord, so maybe black men are are healthy, wealthy or wise.

Too easy to say no not me,

A christian is lossely described as anyone who walk outta a church. But let a rastaman kill someone you hear, he not a true rasta.

Not everyone in a church is a true christian either, there are a lot of pretenders. Lots of wannabees and few real ones sold out to the Lord.

Now you are right that many are the christians who beat up their wives. But I was talking abuse in a more general sense, as Tom boasting of what he did with Sally last night, and Jean the night before. The use abuse chatter that men boast of in their groups where if you don't have a story you are not a man.

Its a culture issue as well. We hold to few ideals if we are not christian, and what many call hypocritical behaviour in others is mainly so because the eyes generally look out and not in.

Every man justifies his way in his own eyes, and its so common for people to point at others for their reasons for not attending church, but at the heart of it is a lie.

Its not about you and the people, its about you and the God. People will always fall short, your eyes need to refocus on the one who will not, he can solve the people problem, if we let him work on us first.

The real person God want to change is you and me.

I agree wid yuh except fe dis one ya.
There are many of us who have left the church and don't call ourselves christian and hold on to stronger values than ever before.

A true muslim will also hold strong values.
I know none stronger than the NUWABIANS (the real christ followers if I was asked) or the nation of islam.
And of course the true rastafari.

That's also a delusion, a christian not associating himself with other believers.

As iron sharpeneth iron so does one believer sharpen another. Jesus warns us about forsaking to assemble togather with the bretheren.

Thomas miss church the first Sunday and Jesus had to put in a second coming to make a believer of Thomas.

Jesus said he is the vine and we are the branches we are to abide in the vine, for if we are unfruitful we are to be prunned.

And guess where we bear fruit if we remain in the body. The fruit is given to bless the gifts of church ministry. Seven fruit of the spirit, seven gifts of the spirit. How will you bear fruit if you dissociate yourself from the vine. You going to wither.

Stay in the Boat, the ship can't sink if Jesus is in it and Jesus church is his body. He established it and the apostles set it going. Salvation is in the Body of Christ and the body of Christ is his church.

This is what we face in here everyday, people who don't know what the Bible teaches, preaching what they do not know.

Instead of asking questions and seeking those things that are so, they large up themselves making loud sweeping statements, exposing their own folly.

Every little figment of philosophy gleaned from men who never even see a star up front and personal, is more to believed than a God who made those stars and created us all to enjoy the glory of his creation and even told us how he did it.

The Word of God, The Bible, takes years of study and spiritual devotion to declare ourselves privy to any special revelation from it. Even Paul when he was given revelations found them too awesome to mention.

A coal was placed on the tongue of John the revelator as he was shown images of events yet to unfold, and met with beings so awesome in Glory that he was tempted to worship them even though these were but servants of the Most High.

Yet we puny men loud in our boasts with the surety of an 'armchair cricketer' large of as 'so called authorities' of what is missing from the Bible.

Dahjah dem churches that shut down maybe God shut them down. When them start preaching that Homosexuals should be ordained as ministers of God. Or start selling "blessed handkerchefs" or "name it claim it" yes the spirit of God will not always tarry with man.

There's coming a day when the church will be moved out of this world. When "he that letteth will let" you think Babylon bad now.

Not everyone that say Lord, Lord going make it. There is going to be a separation one of these days.

My freind Heaven is not going to be empty of Black men, the Bible declares a large innumerable host of "all nations and all tongues", will gather before the throne.

We don't know what it will be like it is beyond our immagination, but who should be there will be there.

And you know something it is my desire by the Grace of God that I will continue in the faith and be counted worthy to be among those who will be with Jesus.

Finally the word of God is not faddish, music will change, fashions will change, customs will change but God don't change, what he says he means, we must change to his standards not he to ours.
