Re: JA - BACK FROM ALL AROUND THE ISLAND TRIP
I spent the next day with Libby, Sonia, Malaika at Fisherman’s Beach. We’re having a good time. After the ladies go home I’m off into town. Walk to the market, stopped at Mom’s to get some food. Must have been a bad day, I waited for one hour for someone to take my order – to no avail. Left and went to My Favorite Place in the little plaza downtown. Fast service, great taste. Stopped in at Little Pub for a bit and just people watched. Played dominoes at Hose’s bar at Island Village. Great, relaxing time. Loved sitting on my little patio and watching all the boats come in for the night. It’s bliss! Most of the “captains” sleep on the boat and in the morning as I sat on my patio, watched all the captains bath right there on the sidewalk with a hanging hose. Definitely no shyness going on.
Spent my last full day in Ochi just wandering, bought some jewellery and made my way to the craft market. I really wasn’t looking for anything in particular, it’s very stressful ‘cause everyone wants me to see their stuff. In the end I buy a rainstick from Neville “The Monkey Man”. As I’m walking the streets I strike up a conversation with a very sweet rasta. I invite him for a drink and we sit at Coconuts. All is well.
I go to my hotel. It’s after 9:00 and I’m tired. Have not heard from Curry and I assume he’s fogotten about taking me out. I shower and go to bed. I’m woken up by the phone ringing. It’s 11:00 p.m. It’s Curry, he’s in the lobby. Can I dress quickly and come down? Man, I never dressed so fast in my life. I go downstairs and Curry has a car a driver and an English couple. We also are driving 2 employees home so the back seat is full. Curry and I share the very small-car front seat. As we drive, Curry tells me he’s worked 12 hours today. He’s going to take the English couple and myself to Jus Cheers then he’s going home to shower and change and come back. Great. We arrive at Jus Cheers and I love the atmosphere. It’s totally local, the three of us are the only “tourists”. I’m elated at seeing “big men” at Jus Cheers. It’s nice to know that there are men over 30 in Jamaica! We get drinks and settle in a spot. I did not take any pictures - was not appropriate.
The view from my balcony at Fisherman's Point.
