I have been following your trip with great pleasure.
I know what you mean at 9 Mile.
I had the same experience. Balled like a baby.
Glad to hear that Joseph is still there.
Will be looking for him on August 28th.
I had the most stunning electrifying feeling when Joseph picked up the guitar that Bob's uncle had made for him and hit one string, which sounded like the first note of "Redemtion Song" I still get weepy just thinking about it. Can't wait to get there next week.
Does this look familiar ?
Re: Red Salts Drench...stories from the North Coast
I'll guess the market was a mile or so down the road....it took us about 1/16th of a mile to learn how to dodge traffic...
The market reminded me of the small, saw-dusted,wooden-floored, family-owned shops that were common in the neighborhood when I was much younger.... shops that were eventually rendered obsolete by megamarts and food warehouses....
We started filling our basket with jerk sauce, pepper sauce (Fire Stick!), coffee..and...what's that??...for some reason, a small red and white box caught my attention... maybe the size of a bar of soap....it was sitting on the corner of a shelf just inside the front window, so one side was sun-bleached...
The odd combination of words made me look closer....

DIRECTIONS: Mix the required amount in a quart to 1/2 pint of water or milk, according to the size of the animal. Stir well and drench. Repeat after 3-4 days if neccesary.
I am now the proud owner of that 225 gram box of magnesium sulphate, sulphur, iron oxide and powdered ginger extract....I figured it would come in handy the next time we have the pigs and donkeys over for dinner...

The market ended up being the best gift shop! We gathered up our belongings and checked out....I can honestly say this was the first time in my life I paid for my groceries with a thousand dollar bill!!
Re: Red Salts Drench...stories from the North Coast
Barry was allowed on the property a couple days a week to sell his wares...he had some really nice stuff...mostly carvings made of cedar, mahagony and lignum vitae...
This is one of the items we purchased...
These are all the items we purchased from Barry....
Re: Red Salts Drench...stories from the North Coast
I have to relate an interesting exchange I had with Barry...perhaps you remember my marveling at the way the Earth provides...I mentioned this to him also....his response just about blew me away....he nodded sagely and said...
"True dat, David...the Earth does provide.....but it also take away...."
