He decides that some food, some Red Stripe and a good thrashing on a pool table will fix me up. We go somewhere real interesting, a local place, not touristy.

This resort has a lot of potential. It is secluded and away from it all, yet not I'd say 15-20 minutes out of Ochii. I can kick myself for not remembering the darling little hilltops town we went though, because I just wanted to jump out the van and explore, but Pablo was on a MISSION to get me to this place.

It was a wonderful little side adventure and kept my mind off the inevitable.

This is the only picture I have of my husband and it is kinda dark. This is from a previous trip when he waved this fish at me and told me to get in the kitchen and cook it and that he was going to the living room and I should fix him ad drink and bring it in there.

I am still looking for the kitchen and the living room.

Better Days Will Come…Our Time Will Come

My last day in Jamaica, AJ has relatives coming to town. In fact, they are to take over my room at Skycastles, and I must pack a day early and go to sleep on Orbra’s couch my last night.

Marshall goes to Montego Bay to pick up the honey moon couple that has just finished a week at Couples in Negril. My job is to show them Ochii in one day, and leave them in good hands.

Marshall brings them to Orbra’s. This couple is so beautiful that Orbra is awestruck. I am thinking, “Yeah, I don’t mind being seen with them.” I take them to Skycastles and get them settled in. The staff has rearranged their schedule to clean this room first. It has been scoured from top to bottom. My proudest moment was when I opened that door for Noni and Troy and they gasped when they saw my view.

I turn over the key and leave them alone until tonight when they have asked to take me to dinner at the Ruins.

You can't see them on this picture, buy Troy has salt and pepper dreads that hang down to his waist, and Noni has twists in her hair. He is abuot 6'4" and she is rock solid and works out. They are such a striking couple that heads turned everywhere we went. Noni says that Troy has gotten a lot more attention in Jamaica than she because of his dreads.



One of the street vendors out that night. I thought this was too cute, you can't see much cyar!!!! I love being on the live and pulsating streets of Ochii at night.


That night I see the Ruins for the first time at night. The entire courtyard around the waterfall is lit with tiny white lights. It looks like fairyland, and what luck! A wedding is happening. Noni and Troy and stunned by the beauty of this place and the waterfall, the service is great, and the food is fabulous.

I look across the table at these beautiful, intelligent, accomplished, and in love young people and I say, YEA.

After dinner, Marshall picks us back up and we do what I love to do on my last night in Ochii, hang out on the street and soak it up. Thank God, that this is just fine with this couple. Noni gets coconut, Troy gets sugar cane, and I get Stripes, and I soak up the last little bit of Ochii that I can.

They take me home, to my couch at Orbras, they return to MY room, to love the night away.

I absorb a view that I cannot see, as the sea is black at night. But I know she is there, I hear her, and she hears me. “I am going to miss you.” “Come back when you can Marilyn, I’ll be here….waiting.”

ohhh i can just imagine how beautiful the ruins would be at night....good to hear the food was good wondered about ordering from the menu and just how good the food would be

Save the Last Dance for Me


The next morning, I am the first one up.



We are all leaving today. I open the doors and see the view again.






Over to the left in a charming rock patio, a Rasta man with long gray locks is greeting the morning in a solemn ceremony that only he and the sea understand.



Orbra comes down. She is not handling this goodbye well. T comes for her and Lisa, and in typical Orbra fashion….she just leaves, and doesn’t look back.

Suddenly I am all alone in an unfamiliar place, and all alone in Jamaica. I take more pictures, drink everything in the fridge, make a ham sandwich……pace.

Finally I call Marshall. “Come get me now, I want to start the drive to Sangster, I want this over with.”

Marshall is not prepared for the Marilyn who drives to the airport. He cannot cheer this girl up. We stop in a little town for some food.


No matter how many pictures you take of the ocean, you can't take it home with you.


At this retaurant, the floor was pure sand. How cool is that?



I eat it, but don’t taste it. Why do you have to take me to the airport? Why do I have to leave? Why can’t you stop my heart from hurting? Why can’t AHYONE stop my heart from hurting?

Along the way Marshall stops and tries to cheer me up with a photo session.





Smile for the camera, but don’t let it see your heart breaking.

At the airport, Marshall will not leave me until I have checked in. I want him to go away….no I want him to stay…..leave now while you can….furtive glances over my shoulder…..no don’t leave me. Finally I make that step into the point of no return, and Marshall is gone…my last tie to Jamaica.

I did my usual. M’ville, food, more booze, then on to the plane. No looking out the window, and yes, tears. Today I have decided to wear my GFT uniform home to Memphis, why I don’t know. Maybe if I play like it is a business day I can take my mind off the pain I am feeling. The first thing that happened was the guy who checked me in for the flight informed the people that none of my bags needed to be searched. They did not search my checked or carry on luggage.

I was immediately bumped up to first class. After I had my drinks and took my time in the terminal, the same guy met me at the plane, rolled my carry on to first class for me, and then put it in the overhead bin for me. The stewardess walked past all the other first class passengers and asked me what I wanted to drink. I was given the red carpet VIP treatment all the way back to Memphis.

I don’t really know if the uniform caused this, but I suspect it did. I told Angie that she can wear whatever she wants to and from Jamaica, but from now on, I am wearing my GFT stuff. It seemed to open doors.


This trip I lost a lot, this trip I gained a lot. This trip was unlike any other, this trip reminded me that at 52…..there are still lessons to learn.

Jamaica taketh away….but Jamaica GIVETH.
