GB, I know that rasta lol. I think his hair weighs more than his entire body! He has wonderful spirit and I also am an owner of his craft. Uncle Sams on Donkey Race day is a great time to meet him if anyone so desires. He sets up his wares and loves to meet new folks!

If the natty knots are disattached they have lost their genuinity.
No `dread` nor no Rasta that I have known has a hair piece that he simply attaches to make look good.
The guy must be a Hollywood rasta.

When I saw him in March they were not detatched. If he has cut it off I would be shocked for we all know that a rasta does not cut their hair for it cuts their strength. It is simply so long that he is able to fold it up and carry it on his arm! I have never seen anything like it!

How were his locks detached?
He just had locks that were waxed and 35 years old that is all.

GB wasn't his locks all on his head?

Yes, they were indeed attached to his head! Where did we get teh idea they were not? The one photo that Kia originally questioned, looks like he was holding them separately, because they were so darn long there was enough slack to go to the ground, and back up again, like a length of fabric....the man's locks are on his head....next time I see him, perhaps, next month, I will take careful photos!

As I sit here waiting for my home to sell I am always with my precious thoughts in my head of those I love in Little Bay After the hurricane I simply could not leave there and not do more to help. Thru this forum I met so many wonderful people that wanted to help and what was equally as wonderful is that I met so many of you as you looked me up in jamaica! At times it was in the middle of a conversation that I would realize that I was talking to someone that I had met on the boards. I was blessed enough to be able to get thru down there via phone when it seemed all others had lost contact. With only good news to report I felt honored to be able to pass the news along. I must remind everyone that we have still not hooked up with a ham radio set-up like we had talked about after Ivan. I am willing to be the base in jamaica to help keep those lines open. My home here in the usa will soon sell and I am moving there for most of the year with only part time spent in the usa. I look forward to any suggestions on the comunication system, and I have stories of the aftermath of Ivan if anyone is interested. Where I was , we were without power for 2 months and without road for almost as long. It was a catch22 for us, had to have the road in order to get the poles replaced to get the current. Man are we spoiled in the states! Without the road there was also no trucks for water! We hauled the water bucket...it made me so much stronger in self going back to the way things used to be and for some the way they still are in many parts of the world. We have a thatch roof on our bungalow and while Ivan ripped off all the zinc from the homes near us ( we are on the sea) he left our guest home alone! Without the road that goes from Brighton to Little Bay ( we only have one road lol) life was changed to be sure! The good news is that it was nothing but beach! Ivan also tossed huge bits of coral and other goodies up and when life gives you lemons you make lemonade is what I told them. I hired the kids to bring me shells and coral to build my new shower out of. We had always had bush to hide the shower area but Ivan took all of that away. The hole for the fresh water is on our land, and many were passing by to get to that sorce. Hiring the kids did two things, it gave them money to help the families thru this rough time and it gave them purpose as they watched the coral they carried turn into a piece of art. I made sure to try to remember a special piece for each of those that helped so we could give it proper placement to be enjoyed for years. My mother has been teaching these kids about Jah and about the big world that we share. She was heartbroken not to be able to go down there right after the hurricaine like I did, but we both knew that hauling water , ect. for even one more person was going to be too hard and agreed she should stay in the states and organize the relief effort that indeed took place. I want to take this time now to say hats off to ALL of you that helped. I was blown away with each phone call from her saying things like, I just got 140 pairs of shoes! I have so many clothes that we are no longer able to get this stuff there via barrels and now we need containers! She told me to get the truck at my end and be ready to find out how the docks work in Mo Bay. I know about that now if anyone has questions. The work load that Ivan put on us all was HUGE. But as I would fish from our boat up and down that south coast I was finding myself feeling blessed. Everywhere you looked was bare work! So many people were employed in that aftermath...Truth once again that we are never given more than we can withstand.

I wonder if they would use the washer. Many country people have the perception that machine washed clothes are not as clean as hand washed. The machine cannot give the attention to dirt detail as a human. (like the gentleman in the picture) [/qb]

Pepper my mom was born in Mississippi with accommodations similar to these. To this day, she can get a stain out of anything! Between scrub brushes and lye soap, she is fierce. I bought her some blue soap from Jamaica and now she wants some everytime I go.

My mom is unforgiving of half clean clothes. If she sees a child's socks that have been washed but not scrubbed clean she will give you a lecture. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] She is forever on my younger sister's case for merely washing clothes in a machine without checking every pocket, treating every stain, scrubbing every sock, etc.

Sandy I don't know you but I am intrigued by your post. The things I give to Goodwill in the states, how would I go about giving to Jamaica?

Green Biscuit, my first trip to the Caribbean was to the Bahamas. My last day there I sat on the beach, looking at the ocean/sea and wondering if this was somehow spiritual - if ancestors were trying to remind me of the Atlantic Ocean connection between the Caribbean and Africa.
