this is what i find fascinating about building in jamaica (for the less affluent)...it's likkle by likkle....out little bay way or anywhere in the bush, it's tuff. gotta buy water, cement, sand, lumber....what materials you can find when both money & materials are available....the faith & stamina involved is amazing....

When it died down, the kids came back...little Vanessa in the red was trying to tell me something....asked her to repeat it about 5 times....just couldn't get the Patois....finally had to call Cudge for a translation....she was trying to tell me that Alanah was trembling (from cold)...dwl...we went from borderline internal implosion to shivering and chilly...

That is so true Jaith...I really spent a lot of time this time learning about it...and I was so mindful of it...EVERYTHING is hard, even if you have a little something...at one point I was horrified to see Alanah playing in a sand pile, which was construction sand of course....she had a hard time understanding why it was such a big deal...hard to explain to a 3 yr old how that will just spread it, make it more difficult to pick up later, etc. I have to say though, she adapted to the water conservation well, as did Cole. I was very proud of the fact that it appeared they thought we would use twice as much as we did.

Please to make me another drink Jaith....

Wow Cudges place is awesome! I can't wait to see it in person. Lots of hard work there, and the yard, oh the yard is beautiful, no small work there either.

the water issue is sooooo hard....we had visitors from grange hill....they would take showers like water fell from the sky.....(oh, i guess it does, just not enough)....i was so torn between being a good hostess & conserving a precious commodity...

Stripe??? I thought we were having Margarita's and banana rum cake or something? I don't do beer...

On the visitors...they were Jamaicans? Even if they have a pipe, I am shocked they weren't sensitive to it....

they have a pipe & carry water from there...so no running water in the house...cuz we had a shower coming from the tank, it was like the luxury of running water....a cruel illusion...

btw, i don't mean to mash up your thread, but i'm drinking beer & getting way too chatty!!!
