The Three Drivers
On the way back I bought two bags of pineapple from a boy on the beach—Yum!! We were all feeling kinda hungry. I said that we should go over to see Miss Sonia. I knew that she was next door to the Jungle and that the Jungle was near the Whistling Bird. We found the Whistling Bird, but couldn’t figure out how to get to the street. We asked a Jamaican on the beach and he told us to walk through Roots Bamboo. We walked through the hotel and ended up at the street. When we got over to Miss Sonia’s and three drivers were sitting on a log near the street. The oldest of the group told us that Miss Sonia wasn’t there, but that we should sit down and wait since she probably just ran to the market. After all that walking a rest was nice. The three drivers were as nice as the respite. They told us about their life and that they liked living in Negril. The man with the gray hair talked the most. He told us that during off-season the beach is really quiet. He also talked about how many people were here just a week ago for Spring Break (glad we missed it). I-staying true to form-was busy clicking away, clicking away. Being on the street side-I noticed the heat. Dang it’s hot outside. The sweat is running down all of us. But over by Miss Sonia’s is so pretty. It was so again tranquil standing outside. Feeling the heat roll over me in waves. Although I was there with 5 other people, I kinda zoned out and had my own time. Just clicking pictures and enjoying the lush natural beauty. A guy later pulled up on the motorcycle and chatted with the drivers. After about 15 minutes we decided to walk back to the hotel and just find food elsewhere. The gray haired driver told us that he would tell Miss Sonia that we came by to visit. We wave goodbye and head back to Roots Bamboo.

The Walk Back Down The Beach
We cut through Roots and I am struck by the view. Could you imagine seeing this


as you eat on a regular basis. ENVY. We head back toward the wet part of the sand and make our walk toward NBCC. This time I decided to keep on the headphones, but maybe talk to people. The girls were often talking to, of course, men on the way up the beach, but I just pretended deaf. After a little while I realized that I should just keep the music on-I’m not really in the mood. Note-these photos are kinda fuzzy due to the reflection of the sun off the sand.

Oh, I am loving this report! The pictures are wonderful and bring back lots of memories. You know, the first time I was in Negril, there was one hotel on the beach. My husband took my Mom and Dad and I there on our way to Sav la Mar to visit a mission there. Dad is gone now and Mom is 91 in July, but the Memories of them there with us, loving Negril beach is so strong! I will always remember the solitude, the cold drinks and the beauty shared with Mom and Dad!

Fattie’s
After we get back to the room and take a small rest we look at ourselves and at each other--------DANG!! Look at that tan. My hair even looks lighter(it is). I couldn’t really tell if it was because my skin was darker or was my hair really lighter. Can I tell you that we all loved it-Our skin looked so smooth and even. When I was younger I always wanted to be darker-and it’s finally happened. (I still look in the mirror and cheese at my tan line.) So after I get over the fact that I’ve picked up about 2 shades of color wearing SP50, we all go back and put our bathing suites on. The plan is to get some food pronto(can’t have Tonya fall out from low blood sugar-) and then be beach bums for the afternoon. After we get our clothes on, we head out of the hotel and stop at the reception desk. We ask for a good local place to eat and they suggest Fattie’s, which is right across the street.

I’m excited because Fattie’s is where I suggested that we go for breakfast. We walk across the street and meet, what I’ll call the boys. There are two motorbike rental places across the street so there are always a number of guys out there. We get the hey-can I talk to you’s and such. We smile and keep walking, as the grumbling in our stomachs is almost audible. But don’t think I didn’t check out a few fine ones to smile extra bright (who said no flirting in Negril). One was really fair skinned with braids plated down to his back. I locked onto his eyes and he held them until I turned away. We go inside we looked at the board to see what was on the menu. We didn’t know what the procedure was, but a nice lady from the back came out and asked for our orders. I ordered the brown stewed chicken, Stacy ordered the curry chicken and Tonya ordered the fish. I quickly asked if there was any ackee left and the waitress said yes. OMG-I was jumping up in down inside. I’ve been having sweet dreams of ackee since my last trip to Jamaica. She told us there was a little left. We sat down and enjoyed the atmosphere. The food came out quick, quick. And let me tell you-it was gone quick, quick. It was so good, but that ackee was just a tease. Stacy seemed to like it but Tonya had to get used to it’s texture. OK-I saw it still on her plate and asked for it. She said sure and I gobbled it up.
