Soon, soon I was at Roots. When I got to the front the band had already started playing. They were really, I mean really good. Later a female singer with the biggest, prettiest Afro-puffs that I have ever seen in my life comes up to perform with the band. They were awesome together. Man we she started singing Franky Beverly-whew and her rendition of Bob’s songs was great. I wanted to get a picture of the singer, but didn’t want to ruin the mood with the flash. Plus we were starting to get antsy. We had been there for at least a half an hour and no food. I start asking why are they holding our food hostage. It finally came. I again had seafood pasta. It was great-and it should have been after how long we waited. This guy who was on the beach was annoying the heck out of me. I guess he was trying to talk to somebody, but I keep seeing him dancing around in my peripheral view and could feel his eyes on my back. After the band ended we walked back to the hotel. The plan was to go out. I remember falling asleep on the bed in the living room.

Shug,

I can relate to the way you felt when you wanted to go out, but your body just said "REST". After a few nights of great food and drink, it is time for a break.

PS: I wish your group and my group had gotten together. Although we had a great time at the clubs on the beach, it would have been double the fun. Maybe next year.

Shugs - I have not read your most recent postings but I had to chime in ... GLORIOUS sun set shots!!

I just love the hues you captured. I have found the shades of the sunsets can vary so much depending on the different times of the year - does that make any sense?? Does anyone else capture some sunsets more intense at one time of year as opposed to another?? Or does it simply depend on what is happening in the atmosphere??

At one of my stays in Ochii I must have taken 100 shots of the sunrises. Then on the next visit they were flat, and I complained to Libby like there was something she could do about it. LOL

She did ask me what time of year it was when I took the first ones and did explain to me that season made a difference in the sky colors.

Selina’s (Monday)
Around 3:00 in the morning, I rolled out of the bed in the living room and managed to make it back to my bedroom without hurting myself. I woke up again at the crack of dawn and watched the Jamaican morning show. After I got showered and dressed, I read a magazine. Once I finished I decided that I was going to go to breakfast by myself since the girls were still asleep. I had no idea where I was going-I just wanted a change from Fatties. I decided to walk down the street until I wanted to stop. I walked down the street and saw Selina’s . I’ve heard so much about the place that I decided to give it a try. No one was there except me so I went up to the bar and sat on a stool. The two waitresses came out and gave me a menu. Wow-everything was really reasonable. I decided on the callaloo omelet. While I was waiting two ladies came and in and sat at a table. So now I’m in my head, just observing everything, looking at the books that were displayed. I’m still trying to get used to eating alone. As I’m daydreaming, a cute, cute dread walks by. He smiles at me and ask how old I am. He tells me that it look like I need to grow 2 more feet. I just laughed and rolled my eyes. I ordered a bottled water, but they were out. The waitress gave me fresh squeezed OJ. OMG that stuff was the BEST!!!! My food came out and I was so pleased. It looked beautiful and tasted great. The bread was the best. I mean it was just wheat bread, but everything taste better in the Caribbean. After I finished, I thanked the waitresses and decided to head back to the room and see if the sleepyheads had decided to get up.

The Dread
As I’m walking back down the street, I pass the dread again. We start talking. He has me cracking up laughing. After standing in the road for a while, he invites me to his house. We walk over to his house and sit on the porch. He tells me that he lives with his cousins. I can see them through the slats of the house cleaning and sweeping. It reminded me of how I would start my days in Guyana. Every morning my cousins would clean the entire house and sweep it from top to bottom. At first she wouldn’t let me help because I was the “guest”. I got tired of just sitting there watching a woman who was old enough to be my grandmother clean. One day I just snatched the broom out of her hand and told her that I’d start sweeping the steps. After that she didn’t fuss at me for wanting to help clean. I also tried to wash laundry outdoors in 100 degree heat. And you know what-I kissed her and told her that I couldn’t help with that, but that I’d clean everyday-all day instead. And please, in the States, it’s good if I clean every 2-3 weeks because of my schedule. So back to JA-Right? LOL….Dread had 2 parakeets that were singing to us the entire time we talked. He told me about living in JA and being a businessman in Negril. He was also flirting. He asked me about my plans. I told him that we were supposed to be visiting a school and that we may be going to Jackie’s today. He asked why would I go pay for a massage when he could give me one for free? I just laughed and changed the subject. After hanging out for a couple of hours, I told him that I had to go back. I didn’t tell the ladies where I had gone and didn’t want them to worry. He told me that I should check out Risky Business tonight. I told him that I’d have to talk to my friends first, but that it sounded nice. He offered to walk me back to the hotel, but I told him that’s OK. I also asked him where a cambio was and he pointed one out to me. He walked me down to the cambio and went back towards his house.

After I finished in the cambio, I walked to a little corner store and picked up a diet soda and some guava jelly to bring back with me. I had already decided that this trip would be my souvenir, but I knew that wanted some guava jelly and one seashell. When I arrived at the hotel, I looked across the street for Strongman and didn’t see him, but waived at some other familiar faces. When I got into the room, I saw a note from Stacy and Tonya saying that they were going for a walk on the beach. About 5 minutes later they arrived back at the hotel. We sat outside on the porch and talked about our day.






While we were sitting the phone rang. It was Gail Jackson returning my call. She told me that she would like to go visit the children tomorrow and that she got my message about us both being Pitt alumni. She told me that she would pick us up at 10:00 tomorrow. Since we wouldn’t be visiting the children, we decided that we would do Jackie’s and 3 Dives today. I called Jackie’s and was told that they could see us at 1:30, 2:00 and at 2:30. That was fine with us. They also told us that they didn’t accept credit cards. Ok-good info to know. Before I left, Marilyn had given me the number to a driver named Tommy. I pulled out my trusty file folder of JA information and found Tommy’s number and called him. He answered the phone and after I said I was a friend of Marilyn’s he said-No problem. I’m going to take care of you and your friends. He gave us a great deal and asked did I know what he looked like. I thought that it was funny question, but said no. He described himself and his car and said that he would be there at 1:00 to pick us up.

Sunset pics are great Shug. We are all still here reading your wonderful trip report.

It makes such a difference to me to know the places you are describing. Gives me a full mental picture.
