Wow what a story. Just read the whole post. I just came back on march13 and want to go again end of April too bad won't be ready as I need a place that is good to visit friends in MoBay and Discovery Bay.

The doors were made by a furniture maker from Hanover, but after having them made, I discovered one in Duncans who was reasonable & unparalled in his workmanship. It's he that I would recomend for doing any wood work....pm me for phone # if you are interested.

It's hard for me to take this all in...that I kinda sorta know someone who actually is making "THE MOVE", but let me say that it is a lovely home in beautiful surroundings...if I can help you with your endeavor, let me know.

I have always loved Ja. since I stepped off the plane that first time! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]...never will forget that rush of tropical air, the sights, smells and language....having lived in Mia. for a good while, I'd had some exposure to Jamaican culture and reggae music, but interestingly enough, My first exposure to reggae music was coming from a band called Rots Uaprising that played in Coconut Grove. I heard all of Bob Marley's, Dennis Brown's, and Gregory Isaac's tunes FIRST from that band, and a rockin band they were!! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

Anyone know that group?..are they still around?

Since I was always a struggling single mom, I really never had enough $ to have any aspirations of actually MOVING a Yaad, but I managed to make many trips during the next ten years and the love kept growing...I think part of my facination was the very DIFFERENCE between the US and Ja.

I spent the next 9 years only having one Ja. fix because I had moved to Vt. with my then 8 yr. old second son....struggled alot with financial issues during those years. Finally found a niche in cold country by opening a retail business in Chester, Vt....and "Cream of the Crop" was born....am going to post this now & continue, before I lose it.

...because I was familiar with running a retail clothing & jewelry business (had 2 before) I took my tax return one year and after watching for retail rentals for a good while in an area that I thought was a good location, finally took the plunge and opened the shop.

I started out as an upscale consignment shop and then after expanding several times, added new jewelry, hats, scarves, and gift items, with an ethnic flair in a seperate area of the shop....seven years later, my son was almost out of high school, I had sold my house for a good profit, and I was damn sick of winter and I also had recieved a small inheritance....

I started surfing the net for a place in a warm climate...looked at Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, St. Lucia and of course, Jamaica.....

Because you have to have the cash up front, most of the properties were too expensive for my pocketbook, but it happened, that one day a friend from Philly was visiting and came into my shop as I was surfing for properties, ([she too is a Jamaicaholic)and I showed her several properties in Jamaica that I thought might be a good investment....well, she said she had always wanted to own property a Yaad and she would go halves with me if I dealt with the details...well, that was all the encouragment that I needed....I booked a flight and proceeded to go all along the N. coast from Falmouth to Port Antonio looking at what I had seen on the net.

BECAUSE I'm not yet at retiremnt age, this lovely home must be not only a home but a business venture...I must make it work financially to be able to afford to stay here....making and selling my jewelry just does not create enough income for me to live here and help my son in Fl. to maintain himself...plus there's those credit card debts.... Needless to say, I know just what you mean about college fund issues..........

Jaith - Have you put burglar bars on your house yet? Want to do that this next reach, but not sure on the prices. Someone also mentioned that instead of burglar bars, put hurricaine shutters instead???

Any information on this?

Been following this post from the beginning ... well Ja Jewel's post from the very beginning so mi want to see the house bad. It sounds just wonderful. Oh I could see the first set of the puppies and the flowers but not the lastest from loops.
