So here we go - but see here if you need or want some background

We came into Mobay and went to check into a hotel but, at the last minute, switched to Hotel Gloriana instead. The place we WERE supposed to sleep that nite, well, we learned that very shortly before we got there, some days previous, an Australian Tourist met his demise there. Hubby adamantly didn't want to stay there any more. Sadly, I haven't heard even a peep about that case since then and I don't think the case has progressed one bit.

But get this, I even had to fite for us to stay at Gloriana. The guy at the front desk was gay. Rite away, hubby want 'tump im' down. I say to him,

'Babe - just because the front desk man is gay, doesn't mean the room is gay - cant we please just check in?'

Fortunately, he sees the logic and we check in. Lawd! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

Anyway - we're dog tired, check in and these are the first pictures when we wake up. Right next door to the hotel, is a nursery. It was just nice - green, so of course I love it.

So when I got bk home and was going thru all the pix, I saw this one. I KNOW I didn't take it - couldn't figure where it came from. Asked hubby - 'ear im nuh'?

"Oh, oh, oh - a mussi axident mi did tekki. Mi waayna look o fi tun off di cammra and mi fingga did slip"

Yeah Right!

Quick - tell me 5 public beaches between Mobay and Ochie that you don't have to pay to go in?

Rite - I can't think of any either. Maybe they're out there but I couldn't find them! A wah kinda injusstiss dis? Man affi a pay fi guh beach?

I know, I know, it's nothing new down there but still, just sticks in my gut.

I just loved this little beach near the main. Nice everyday people jussa chill.

Ok - am going to skip over a big chunk of time here.

Wait - I guess I should say something about Hotel Gloriana huh?

Ok - well - just like most things in life, depends on what you're looking for, expecting, what you value, etc.

The price was right so that was a major plaus. We just needed a place to crash so we could make a game plan and car hunt. I think what the owner does is great work for the area though. She gives a lot of people jobs and is a kick [censored] entreprenuer (sp).

But if you're looking for top notch, or middle notch treatment, IMHO, this aint the place for you.

Alright so from Mobay, we headed east. Stopped for brief visits with some family and friends. We even went to Green Grotto. I'd not been there since I was about 11 or so. It's totally different - they've really remodled the place. Nice, nice.

So driving along, eastward, this truck pulls in front of us and there's a dread in the back. I ended up taking a roll of film on this guy. It's hard to tell from the picture but I was on the edge of my seat in panic the guy would snap hi neck off.

When he pulled in front of us, he was laying back with his head and his hair was almost touching the lic plate. Minute by minute, it looked like his locks was going to get caught up on something and his neck was going to snap off!

The truck went round a bend with a whole heap of bush - some braches were sticking out towards the truck.

His hair nearly caught it! Almost pap im neck im sheg! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

Finally he wised up & wrapped it up.

Teef! Mi seh - di peeple dem teef mi god! But hey, you have to do what you have to do right? At the start of the summer, I did a lot of research and pricing from up here online. A lot of the car dealers back home have websites now. But by the time we'd gotten down there, the prices had gone up so much, any estimate I'd previously gotten was worthless. Had to buy it though. Being in JA without your own transport, or RELIABLE transport, is almost as painful and as uncomfortable as sticking your wet finger in a lite socket. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

We came upon the Bahia Prinssy Whatsi Notsit Hotel there building. (kissteet)



I got out the car to take a few pix but the workers and the 1 security guard at the front looked at me like I was the devil. Mi qwik qwik guh back inna di cyar mi deer! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Interestingly, hubby got out and walked strait thru the gait onto the site and bought a Pepsi from a vendor.

So here’s the first detour.

Back in the day, the school bus driver for my high school was from Moneague. A really wonderful man named Mr. Tracey. You guessed it – I’d heard about the flooding over there so I wanted to go and see for myself – and wanted to go see if he was still there because I knew his home was near the affected area.







On a side note – can ANYBODY tell me what the deal is with this lake? I’ve heard about 20 different stories –from duhppie to Bauxite drilling. Why has this happened?

Here’s what some of the houses down there look like now. You can tell from the water lines how high the water came up …



I know the area fairly well, so I was especially heartbroken to see this.

We actually went back on a WEEK day as well.

You should’ve seen residents trying to go along with their everyday business. Pikni – line up pan di - shore waiting for the canoe to come fetch them like any school bus. Fare – ready to pay.
