Magic, the control panels look a little dated to me but we've not had any plane crashes surrounding that airport so we must be in the clear! Fun stuff you have here! So tell me, did you upgrade from the Daewoo?

When I met Magic two years ago, I was surprised and amazed that he was fluent in patois (patwa). Im chat an rite betta patwa dan me! Uncle Howie (you'll hear more about him later) calls Magic "Mr. Jamaica" because he's a walking enclyopedia on Jamaica. I guess before I get started, I should give you some background. As Magic said, I was born in Jamaica but left when i was 12 yrs old so all i remember and know about JA is my family, school, and the beach. I lived in NYC & Chicago (or Chi-town for those familiar) so I am very much a city gal, hence the moniker, DaintyBodyGal. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] This trip to JA was basically a chance for me to get reacquainted with the island. Plus, I was way overdue for a vacation [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]
So here we go...

Part 4 - Wind Down!

I often stay at the beautiful Whistling Bird when in Negril, but I thought I’d try something different this time. I’ve heard many nice things about Idle Awhile, and we drove there first to check it out. The place looked splendid indeed. Very peaceful and relaxing. A good first stop after arriving from Babylon to apply maximum brakes to your over-speeding wheels and pulleys of your mind. Unfortunately with only 14 rooms it was full. This was a Saturday, and perhaps Kingstonians decided to escape the heat of Town and come to Negril. We went of to For Real, but the Pepto Bismol choice of color for the outside didn’t agree with me. We also checked Traveler’s, where the upstairs rooms with balconies were nice, and finally Coco LaPalm, where I stayed with my parents as a child when the property was about a quarter of its present size. Coco LaPalm won, and after a well deserved fresh we headed out to dinner.

I love the pineapple chicken at Roots Bamboo [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70377-loveeyes.gif[/img] , and I’ve never been able to duplicate it at home. As we walked down the beach, it look unusually empty and practically pitch black. I was tripping over anchor ropes and losing my orientation. Can you believe that? Magic lose himself on Seven Mile Beach. But only for a moment. L. Remarks how dead this place is, and totally not what I’ve described to her before. Then I realize that it’s just a power cut. Current lack aff. No powa. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] The backup generators haven’t kicked in yet, and I imagined that this is what Seven Mile Beach must have looked like 40 years ago, when it was first being discovered by the tourists, before Norman Manley Blvd. Was built, and when you still had to use a boat to get to anywhere on the beach. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

We ate dinner by candlelight and it tasted as good as always. Soon after the light were back on, and we were transported back to our times just in time to enjoy the sights and sounds of an evening walk along the shore.


Nothing nicer than a cold Ting in the morning.
