Kingston, please forgive me for not knowing, but are the last pictures of Strawberry Hill. Is there a camping facility in that area (still). I love your pictures. The earth is so lush in that area, and green.

I admire you for taking care of your grandfather. That is one of the few things I don't care for about Americans. We do not respect and care for our elderly as much as we should. Youth is everything here.

Hi Angie it is Strawberry Hill it was such a nice day but weather in the Blue Mountain is unpredictable, as you will see below.

We headed up higher into Blue Mountain my uncle was determined to take me to the border of Portland and Kingston, we were in luck he had a suv and the skills to handle the road. Then the fog rolled in, it was not cold but covered everything it looked very..well foggy [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]







This fruit basket belonged to a man who lived down the hill and was selling his produce to anyone who paid him attention, got a dozen for 100 dollars, sweetest banana I ever tasted I know its cliche but banana dont taste like this in the states, which led to a lively debate amoung us as to why Jamaica cant export this stuff. We part ways after the rain lets up and I leave with couple more grapefruits he threw in free just for the conversation, just a real decent person one of many I met on the rock.

Mission accomplished we finally hit the border of the two parishes and all I got was this lousy picture.



On our way back down the hill stopped at a fairly new cafe, it was cozy, service friendly and the blue mountain coffee was wonderful. I wish the owners much success, this picture is taken on a small deck outside, the lizard just caught my eye.



Then my uncle took me to his old stomping grounds UWI. I did not take much pic except this one as I was too busy listening him talk about campus life plus I was in awe of the campus and thinking about howe I would have ended up here had I not fly out to America.

Interesting observation about modern day Jamaica, back when I was a child you could show up at someones home especially on a Sunday without notice and you would still get a plate a food and some sour sop juice and good conversation. Mi uncle went to his buddys house since we were in the area, its a gated complex so the guard has to phone up to the house before we get let in, his friend is not there but the wife is there with the baby, normally people would a still go look fi the baby and wife and say hello. Nah sah mi uncle seh him cant impose pon nobody and turn back around ..mi shocked..Jamaican start act like farrin to blerrz nawt.

Jamaica got smaller -


What a way the new highway sweet, it now takes two hours to get from Kingston to Little Ochi, I remember the days when this trip took all five hours and the twist and turns plus had to wake up early to make the trip.

So when my uncle stops by after church at 12 and tell us to get ready to leave by 1pm I thought “dis man yah mad” but the trip was so quick. Our only stop was in Clarendon at the Juici beef patty ordered from the drive thru and we were off again, bwoy Jamaica really change up.

Parking lot still had places left, the first thing that hit me about the place was it still managed to retain its local flavor, and the vibes were nice. We went in to pick our fish and lobster, now I don’t know how much time a month my uncle eat here because they knew him and take us to the back where the people are scaling our fish and had the “Master of seafood” Gramps pick the finest snappers I have seen in a long time.


Not much happened while we were there just some fishermen tried to sell Gramps this hell of a fish almost as big as myself and my uncle ask who fah car dat coming back in cause fish blood once it leak in your car, you can forget having a new smelling car again. The fisherman still trying to make the sale and my uncle looking at Gramps and him like “unu mussi ago ride pon the fish back to Kingston”.

If a laff a dead, ultimately my uncle won (damn it.. I was betting on gramps winning and eating the fish myself [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img].) The food came quick and in the words of Bigga I nyam festival and fish till dem nearly come out a mi ears. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] Sorry never took any food pic.

Manatees -

Then my uncle had a surprise for us, he took us to a place off the beaten track where you can still see Jamaican manatees and crocodiles living together without paying a dime. It was another discovery moment, I enjoyed seeing these playful and docile creatures in their natural habitat, but they were huge I only wished I had a better camera, ah well. Here are the best pics I could take, the calf kept hiding but the mother came out couple of times. Glad the Jamaicans were very defensive of the place also we need to protect our environment even more.

Oh Sweet Jesus Mary & Joseph ..... you got to see the MANATEES???

I have a simple and quaint little list of "things to do" for my life to be complete .... and to see a Manatee with my own eyes (outside of Disney's Epcot) is pon that list.
