Also meant to add that here in London I paid for the photocopying postage and transport to get myself there. These are public offices so money is not the name of their game (the institutions that is!)

No - unless you pay somebody to do the work for you.

First rule is to be as specific as you can be about who or what you are looking for. Don't assume anything. The cousins cove platation formerly crooks' cove sugar plantation lists a number of slaves named Crooks. There are still Crooks residing at Cousins cove now. But I cannt assume we are related. All I can assume is we share a close history.

Good idea to study the names. The way names are spelled change for all sorts of reasons

Cudjoe was orignally Kwako (excuse spelling)a Ga name. A friend of mine parents from JA Gparents from China is aware that his name was originally spelt Powe. Shorthened to Pow. I always say assume nothing when you undertake your research. Just discover.

(((Paul))) From another angle... do you have suggestions for those here with us today, regarding listing or documenting their own part of their immediate family tree etc... so that in another 100 or 200 years their future ancestors won't have need to do their own search?

I can agree with that. When my great uncle did a search which took him through Great Britain, he discovered that we were also of Irish descent as opposed to Scottish and English etc

The FHC might be able to help you with name searches etc. But I'd always advise that you locate your nearest centre using their site and get down to one and go chat to the attendants, They are very helpful. Don't put too much faith in internet searches when tracin your ancestors. The info is still limited.

I use an early version Family Tree Maker - not that I'm in the business of promting them, they don't pay me! I don't think you really have to pay alot for these things.
When I refer to the Spanish Town Archives I'm really refering to really mean Registrar General's Office. The FHCs have micro filmed there records and hold them at there head office in Salt Lake City and at some satellite centres. You need to exhaust their records before you can get the mostform other archives and repositories

Most certianly did! You'll read all about my quest in the afterwordof the novel which is all fact. I visited Jamaica and Cousins Cove Hanover where my Jamiacan history began.
