Re: Portmore Boycott...
[ QUOTE ]
All the holy men and prophets of God in the Bible were warriors for justice, the early church likewise. That is why the apostle John was cast in prison on the Isles of Patmos - he and the early Christians refused to bow to Caesar.
Almost all who fought for the abolition of slavery were men who read and understood the Bible, for example, William Wilberforce. Yet here in Jamaica where there are so many "churches and Christians" there is so much injustice by the state, for example, the Portmore toll, and the vast majority of "churches and Christians" are mum. Don't they know that the first group of people mentioned in the Bible that will not be in the kingdom of God are the cowardly? Revelations 21:8
".but the cowardly, traitors, perverts, murders, the place for them is the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death." Oh for a theology that would liberate and renew the mind of the Jamaican people, washing it of its slave mentality.
This Jamaican society was born out of slavery, and as Moses led the people of Israel out of their 450 years of slavery in Egypt and taught them to be a proud and courageous people, so should the church and its leadership (who purportedly serve the same God) teach this Jamaican ex-slave society to be a proud and courageous people. Instead, we have a society which is indoctrinated (especially by the church) to bow to every authority or law regardless of their legitimacy. We have been encouraged to be a society that meekly submits to authority and/or leadership regardless of accountability or legitimacy.
Therefore government taxes us without accountability as to how taxes are used. Laws are passed that are inimical to the welfare of the citizens, and the most the "church and Christians" say is that we should pray.
This ex-slave society needs to be taught that if one can't live honourably, then it is better to die honourably: it is better to die as a lion than to live as a dog.
The people need to be taught ideas as espoused by two of America's greatest leaders (who were churchmen), "The tree of liberty must sometimes be watered with the blood of tyrants," said Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin said,
"They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." This ex-slave society must be taught that to hold the philosophy that "coward man keeps sound bone" is both ungodly and the path to re-enslavement.
Until the church returns to its true Judeo-Christian roots, it will continue to be an institution that produces wimps, and encourages tyrants and demi-gods, rather than an institution that produces Marcus Garveys, Martin Luther Kings, Rosa Parks and other great men and women., who will cause tyrants and oppressors to tremble.
Until then Jamaica will continue to have governments that dare to do what was done with the Portmore citizens with regard to the causeway.
