Well I've spent/wasted about 15 minutes so far in searching for trial records or any reference that links the PNP to any activity in Grenada at the time of the U.S. invasion and have gone through about 40 links and produced nothing.

Since you made the claim TG it is incumbent upon you to produce some evidence for what you claimed.

I'll keep looking for an hour or so over a few days but you could save me that time by producing something to back up what you said.


Your statement /claim was unequivocal so you either have proof or........

of all the pms Jamaica had Eddie Seaga was teh only leader who had both the legal means and the postion to instate himself as a leader for life.. yet he did not do this.. He could have changed the constitution so that he remained in power and he did not despite some of his party suggesting he did... For that reason and that reason alone he is should be honoured

Seaga was a very smart man...he knew the political implications of &quot;changing the constitution to remain i/c for life&quot;...

Well, even if it was contemplated, it for wise reasons wasn't enacted...there wouldn't be enough space to bury the bodies from the revo-lu-tion that would ensue.

The reason why this is important is that had the JLP pulled out of the 76 election.. Tjhe one with the stat of emergency as they were discussing to do at the time.. I beleive that Manley and his cohorts would have changed the constitution to consolidate power into theri hands.. their interlectuals were discussing on party rule a number of times..

Seaga in 83 could have done this he could have packed the senate with hand picks and ramrod the constitutional change through.... If we examine the history of Sub Ashara Africa this was common at the time the one party state, which tolterated no organised oppostion.. Yet Seaga rightly appointed oppostions senetors.. including Trevor Munroe I beleive...

I never liked Seaga.. I watched him do nothing when his hard men threatened school children in October 80.. I think he lacks the ability to delegate.. A bit of a gordon Brtown a Maanager not a leader.. But we have to give him kudos for that election in 83... The idea of Cicinatus... recognising the danger of ruling with out a coherent oppstion...

As it is as long as ther are 2 political parties in thehouse you cannot get a 2/3rd majority unless you can influence at least one senator to cross the house. It was designed to make sure that the majority under no circumstance can change the constitution without either a referandom or opposition controbution.

Well a point perhaps BUT as I've always maintained, there is really not much difference between the two business parties in either Jamaica or the United States.

Not much has really changed in either country in my memory for the wealthy or the working and poor classes whether one party or the other was in power.

Manley in his first hold on power was unable to get the people behind his somewhat radical changes and he fell into line when he regained office in the late 80's.

If there were just one party holding power what sort of radical and UNPOPULAR changes could they make without riots, general civil unrest and calls for opposition parties and new elections?

Are you saying that the Jamaican people would sit still for a dictatorship ?

As Dr Dudd said it is only speculation at this point.

I think both parties are satisfied with the sharing of power as they have been doing since independence and no leading politrician in Jamaica would feel the need for total power.
