PNP meeting could herald General Election

The leadership of the People’s National Party (PNP) is downplaying speculation regarding the significance of Monday afternoon's meeting of the party's candidates and constituency caretakers.

They have been summoned to a meeting at a Corporate Area hotel by party president, Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller.

Since the RJR News Centre first reported that the candidates were summoned to a meeting several analysts have been suggesting that it represents a clear sign that a General Election will be called soon.

However PNP General Secretary, Colin Campbell, has sought to downplay that suggestion.

He says the meeting will be used to discuss matters relating to this weekend's annual conference.

The PNP caretaker/candidates spent last weekend completing constituency conferences in preparation for the annual conference at the National Arena.

It will be Portia Simpson-Miller's first annual conference in her capacity as President of the PNP.

With the polls showing the likelihood of a close contest in an early election, the nation will be taking a close interest in Mrs. Simpson-Miller's next move when she faces PNP supporters.

The story was told to me, that long ago in Jamaica there was once a PM, not anointed by God as the current PM, but he was so popular, and charismatic he was literally worshiped and touted to be the new leader of the free word.

Then there was an Opposition leader that was hate by those who saw him as not Jamaican enough, and called him all manner of evil names.
History has it that the Jamaican people suddenly arose and came to their senses realizing that, their PM, he not been anointed by God, and seek not his blessing neither the blessings of the Church as the current PM did, was leading them into the path of destruction an unrighteousness.
They then went to the Opposition Leader, begged for his help, promised and gave him victory, victory over the popular, charismatic, touted leader of the free word sending him into retirement and many believe sanity before death.

Therefore my brethrens, be careful of those who come to us with a smile and claim to be of us the poor, and a champion of our causes. Be warn, don’t be carried away by Gender for in the end it should not be a choice because one is Male or Female but those who will not just speak about us the poor, but will lead us out of poverty. So remember these words
“The election campaign would not be about "hugging and kissing”

The picture does and cannot show it all, what it cannot do is to show the words that were exchange between them both before the picture was taken, which causes him to respond in that way. One should also take into consideration of these two events one is staged the other is spontaneous. Guess which is which

BG: Where did the PNP government find the money? I think it was just prior to the 1997 election, when the police wages were increased by almost 100 per cent.

PRIME Minister Portia Simpson Miller has put members of her ruling People's National Party (PNP) on election alert, even as the party prepares for its 68th annual conference this week.

"The party leader has put us on alert, so we are making sure that we are in a position to give her options that she can exercise them when she wants to. So let us rule out nothing.," PNP chairman Robert Pickersgill told the Observer, minutes before more than 200 MPs, councillors, caretakers and members of the party's National Executive Committee met in a special session at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston yesterday.

Simpson Miller herself, when asked if the PNP was getting ready for elections, said: "I have said to my party, put me in a position so that when I'm ready to call an election I can do so."

However, the prime minister, in trying to avoid speculation about a snap election, said the polls are not due until 2007, and that she would be going for her own mandate when the time is right... More

I mentioned a TV program I saw and you decided to grill me on it and question my honesty and source until I had to dig up the proof and paste it for your majesty's benefit - even though I could have chosen to ignore you.

To be honest, I never did doubt your words but, after the way you came at me, I decided to give you a taste of your own medicine. I won't be asking you to convert the recorded tape into windows media format and upload it on youtube so I can finally "verify" it and see the proof for myself. The lesson here is, don't just assume people are liars because you don't like them. Continue your discussion with blackstar because I am learning good info from both of you and I find many of your posts informative.

Well I read where you told RichD, you need to get out of the house more often, you should also consider looking at how politicians behave, especially when it comes to answering questions during election time. As a starter you should read what he (RichD)posted about Caribbean Politicians behavior. He understands our politics is different from any other.

Anyhow would you say all the answers given by President Clinton during his impeachment hearing were intelligently given? Or may be you too would question the questioner about what “is, is” Politics, that is what its call, skip around and measure your answers or lie. Your hero Migel was great at that.

But as Tuff said, we will soon know, just tell her to accept the debate, even if she is afraid allow Omar and Peter, they are willing but she is saying no as it would be an embarrassment to her if they do and she don’t.

Did you read Tuff post on how Bruce let her look stupid in Parliament? That did not go far enough, I understand you should have seen the grin on the faces of her colleague, and heard their comments after Parliament.

I think it is a perfect political answer and I hope Mr. Golding continues to giver these kinds of answers.
The PNP and their lackeys have nothing to campaign on what they hope is that the JLP (as they have done numerous times) provide them with fodder.

They know that JLP is likely to cut the size of Government and Civil Service. What the inquistadors don't know is, from where and how deep, hence the depth and tone of the questions from the in-bedded press.

I have never hear these spineless yes-men and women inquire too deeply about where Omar is getting the money from to service a debt load that is at least 135% of our GDP.

BTW.... where did the PNP find the funds to pay the police in the run up to the elections?
