Overall I see no ral reason to fear a widespread outbreak. jamaicans are very health councious,and the kills and facillities are in place so unless there is some drastic breakdown,it should be eliminated in short order.
incidentally it is dues to the health data system why it was identified and publicized with so few cases discovered.

Health Ministry insists that malaria situation is under control


Despite the reported increase in the number of malaria cases that has been brought to the attention of medical authorities, the Health Ministry is insisting that it has the matter under control.

The Ministry says there are now 13 confirmed malaria cases which are all confined to the Kingston 12, 13 and 14 areas.

Five children are among the 13 persons diagnosed with the insect borne disease.

The Ministry says the children have been hospitalised, but none is considered to be critical.

All 13 cases have been discovered in Delacree Park, Denham Town, Trench Town and Tivoli Gardens.

But Team Leader Dr. Marion Ducasse stressed that there is no need for alarm.

The Health Ministry's surveillance team appears to be working feverishly.

Dr. Ducasse says all health centres will be on the alert Monday.

But the surveillance team is not limited to these areas as breeding sites of the anopheles mosquito which transmits malaria, have been identified in Sydenham Villas and Featherbed Lane in St. Catherine.

These communities along with another which has been found in Trench Town have been destroyed.

The Health Ministry says the findings have been reported to the Health Emergency Operations Centre.

The Ministry is also recommending that all mass gatherings in these areas be suspended.

This includes “Passa Passa” the popular weekly entertainment activity in Western Kingston.

Meanwhile, Ministry officials are to meet with representatives of the affected communities including the Member of Parliament for Western Kingston, Bruce Golding and Councillor for the Tivoli Gardens Division Mayor Desmond McKenzie.

Sandy gully yes but i've heard of shoemaker gully, i think it is probably aroud the Jakes rd mountain view area,but that's only an slightlt informed guess.
Where is it?

Is not standing water is the problem. It si water that the mosquito lava can develope into mosquitoes.
There are actually safe treatments tthat can be done to potable water that makes it inhospitable to mosquito,but safe for human consumption.
Remember we had the Mona resovior and the Hermitage dam at the time when we irradicated Malaria before
No it is not DDT either.
the gullys and such can be treated with oil spray,but that is harmful to plants and animals if done to irrigation water,but their are other treatments that are easily applied. Hey let them employ psome of those unemployed eople to do it.
One more thing mosquitoes do not breed in floods. Their eggs are washed away.they do after the flood though

The Sandy Gully runs from about Barbican to the sea, the bridge over HWT Road going towards Cross Roads crosses it. The bridge @ Central Road crosses it. The Rousseau Road Bridge crosses it. It runs through Trench Town. The famous Mother White Bridge crosses it.
Other smaller gullies @ Torrington and West Kingston connects to it as well.

There is also a smaller Gully system @ Delacree that might connect to the Shoemakers, but I am not sure if it does.

No you do not need kerosese. That is dangerous in potable water.
there are non oil treatments for water that kill the lava. really a powder that is safe to human and animals,but kills the mosquitoes.
you could also sue edible oil too instead of kerosese, [img]/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

If the denizens of ****ty KillSome is not worth nothing Brian Lara and Co is surely worth millions and no agent worth his/her precentage is going to want his charge to venture into a Malaria infested city to live and play cricket.
