I kinda wish I had Vista and was working from the end you are working at. I will have to install VPC04 and try to install the Test Vista, except it won't be the same because it is already optimized.

Here is my advice to you Download the Microsoft provided fixed Windows XP+SP3+Internet Explorer that is fixed to run on VPC07 and Vista.

It does contain a time out but knowing MS this is the full version of XP because it took me about 27 minutes to download it.
So you will get the Installation and the Patch in one huge file and all you have to do is install it in the VM.
Like I said I have not tested but I am almost certain you can then run all XP Programs on it.

Here is the link.... just choose the XP with Service Pack 3.

The installation is proceeding right now on the 2ndary disc I created. I should wait until it is done and if the .dll error happens again, follow your instructions? Or should I try removing the file right now? </div></div>Try my answer above.... of course many of the stuff that I answer here are not things I come across every day.... like your Laptop Memory getting stuck for instance...but when you think about it you know there has to be a logical explanation if you have followed the correct procedures...so you just keep thinking.

Okay, I have got the VP to re-install XP again - I have no recollection of what I did th make it happen, but the point is it is happening! The drives are going in so I'll go have another beer and see how this goes for me.

just had a thought while brushing my teeth

Can I not load Windows XP onto my external hard drive and load it when I need it?

but.....if the OS is on the external hard drive, I would have to remember to copy my files to my desktop when I make changes correct?

There is a missing step to the above but I'll try to figure it out in the morning after my drinks have worn off.

You can't Install Windows on Removable Drives because the way it interfaces with the Hardware.
It is better to store the DATA on the removable and install the OS on the second physical Hard Drive.

I forgot to mention that when you are doing heavy-duty stuff in Windows that involves a lot of Virtualization you should clean up your drive. Make sure Temp files are gone and your System Drive defragmented.

Houston we have Lift Off

XP is installed on the virtual disc which is where I am working from at the moment

Only lingering issue I have now is I was installing my secondary wireless printer, and I got an error msg about the virtual memory being too low. This the same issue I had on my laptop awhile back until I added more RAM.


I suspect that isny the issue with my desktop (2GB RAM) but maybe my settings for XP. Where would I go to change the amount of hard drive and RAM dedicated for the virtual machine?
