feature like caller id, *69 and other.
Your security alarm dial emergency number just as you will dial a number on you key pad.
If you can find the main telephone wire in your house you could tie vonage telephone system in to it by finding the main wire that supply telephone service to your house.

You will have to make sure the vonage adapter is on a UPS and also that it does connect into your alarm system to cover the cases when you lose power in the house.
It is fairly easily to disconnect the phone line into the house at the NID. Once you do that, you can then use the existing jacks in the house.. or like most people just walk wid u cordless.
