Memory Upgrade

If I buy a memory card thingy, how does one install the thing?

Since I usually just buy a new system when I want to upgrade [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] I have no clue how I would add a memory chip to an existing system.

Do I need to take it to the Geek Squad or something for it to be added, or is it something I can do myself?

1.60Ghz Pentium Processer
1.59Ghz, 512MB RAM
80GB hard drive

last meal at 5:30pm : curry chicken and rice n peas

is this enough info?

I was going to buy more RAM

I can still upgrade the memory on this laptop til I am ready to buy a new one. The cost is not prohibitive so, spending less than $200 is in the budget til I want to spend some real money.

I dont want to buy a new laptop until the new year, so I need to do something now to improve performance. I am way to impatient to put up with it [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

okay. havent placed my order yet for the memory thingy til next week.

however, i keep getting this error msg on my laptop:

"Out of memory: see line 56"

what the hell does this mean?

You probably have crap on your pc. Search for *.tmp files and delete them. Next try one of the free online scanners to see what it find. www.ewido.com www.trendmicro.com Both of them have a free and a trial link. Look around the page for the free one and you don't have to load the trial version of either one. If it find anything other than cookies, write down or print the names of what it find. Always new stuff turning up and it good to know what it had, so if it come back, you can find out how to remove it properly.

I have done the search and have tons on .tmp files. So I should delete all of them or should I be looking for cetain ones to delete?

Yes, delete all of them. You will have a few left because they are already open by windows, so it wont allow you to delete those(sharing violation.) Then run the online scanners and see what it find.

k, i ordered the memory upgrade and should have it by Friday.
