oh, sure, it appears very glamourous, but what you don't see are all the late nite meetings and conference calls, not to mention the endless paperwork....and maintenance on the country bus is an every day occurence...

qk, you're so right . . . it's insane freedom . . . not only do we have to look ahead, down for the potholes, but also keep looking back to see if anyone is going to overtake you . . . yes, the driver must stay real conscious if you want to go home in one piece. . . a car is a must unless you're planted in one spot.

i've already reserved my car for jan, 2009 trip.

One day I drove the pickup out to look at some land off the main road and every time we approached some nasty stretch of potholes one of the guys standing in the back looking over the cab would yell &quot;BAHD ROOAD!! BAHD ROOAD!!&quot;

It takes a while for that to wear off once you're back. I find myself going on the wrong side of the road to avoid a bad stretch and nearly stopping to get over a particularly big pot hole. Sean pointed that out to me after his trip... &quot;You know you're not in Jmaiaca anymore...&quot;

i have driven around the island many times(24) and i would heartily recomend it to streetwise travellers. put on your dyslexic cap and go.read various jamaican travel guidbooks found at any library at 917 in the dewey decimal system. it is the best way to get to see places that are hidden from others because you can at the drop of a hat go somewhere on a whim and if ya dont like it scram just as easy. seriously though i always rent a car for the invaluable freedom it affords you.get a sedan with a trunk to keep your stuff in outasite.toyota yaris is nice but there are others too. one time a couple years back i rented a white toyota wagon and i would pick up jamaicans who thought i was a taxi guy and at the end of the ride(s) they were astonished when they tried to pay me and i said it was free. the poster who said a ( &quot;world&quot; mastercard ) covers the collision damage waiver is right as far as cc go. call your cc company and ask for that type to be issued to you.

OK - I just filled out a reserve form ... see what they come with.

I assume they must be off-site of the airport - cuz they ask if I want pick-up.

I might utilize them - see how it goes. might be a hassle cuz I plan to carry in more next reach ...

schlep thru the airport
load a bus to a remote site
unload, then load the car ... hmmm - we will see.

the site said that 168 special was for low season 1/15-3/31

that works for my trip dates..

and pls let me know if they say insurance is mandatory

my dates fall into that range ... with a return of 4/1 - so will see what they say.

regarding insurance - my card does not cover it, so it has been mandatory for me ... I always take the 1/2 price coverage with Island Rental.

they offer $25.00 per day full cover (lower deductable)?? /// $12.00 per day higher deductable ~

had a mash up one time - not our fault - and the guy just happened to have family that run auto body / mechanics ...

they fixed it PERFECT at no charge to us - cept a couple days hanging round their shop. but - that was an experience in itself. got to know their fambalee ~ nuff nuff shared ...

well - so far they have come back with a price of $333 for my 9 day rental. I wrote them back to ask about insurance - no answer yet.

Did your price include tax??

Your price of $168 for a week is $24.00 a day

Mine comes in at $37.00 a day ... I wonder what they would offer if I asked for only one week.
